    Soccer coming to Nashville Fairgrounds

The Metro fair board Tuesday approved a ground lease that would allow property at the city's fairgrounds to be used for a new MLS stadium.

I go the races at Nashville from time to time to get my asphalt fix and they do have the cars as i was there, this past Saturday night there were over 100 cars racing and the late model race was very good. They already shut them down to once a month racing and now they are trying to get them out for good. My understanding was the soccer stadium was going to be built behind the grandstands on the hill, but the way this reads they are going to rebuild the whole facility. This is one of the historic asphalt tracks we have and it does not need to be shut down!

I hope they don't tear the race track down.

Some of my best memories from the 80's was the October All American 400 weekend. ASA vs All Pro. North vs South. 50 to 60 late models when many of the pavement guys were trying to get to NASCAR. That is a nice size half mile with great banking. I'd loved to have seen the steep banks before they cut them down.

The first car race I ever went to was at the fairgrounds. 1988 Busch series race, I was 8 years old

The old track still has some good racing from time to time. I really believe the city officials couldn’t care any less about the track. Every year I’m kinda surprised it’s gonna make it another year. I’d say without promoter Tony Formosa the place would’ve tanked a while ago. Tony does his best for the place and a lot of folks are grateful for that.

The location of the track hurt it’s chance to evolve in the 90’s like a Bristol did. If that place would’ve been outside of town I believe it would be just as big of a spectacle as Bristol has become.
