I see a lot of talk about rising costs for supers these days but the other thing to consider is the stagnant payouts. If weekly payouts had kept up with costs what do you think they would look like? Some tracks race for $1000-$1200 a given night with around $250 to start. If purses had kept up would they be more like $2000-$3000 to win with $400 to start? Thoughts?
What would purses look like if they had kept up with the rising costs?

Well, if you plug in simple inflation from 1990, it's about double in 2018. So all the 10k shows in 1990, should be 20k today, which isn't the case for most races.

Remember though. Those early 90s, 10k races were generally 2 day 100 lappers. Today's 10k are primarily 50 lap one night shows

There isn’t anymore where I live. Used to be plenty...now it’s once a year (maybe) if one of the minor league series comes to town.

If purses magically doubled overnight for supers then owners / drivers would spend more and soon wind up back in the place where they started. There will always be owners that will spend more than what they expect to recover in purse money and sponsorship combined. And there will always be drivers / owners that think they deserve to make money or at least break even because “they are the show†in their belief. Two different mind sets and neither understands nor has much concern for the other. Point being, as much as we would all like to blame promoters, sanctioning bodies, engine builders, chassis suppliers and racing parts retailers at some point the competitors are going to have to understand they share some of the blame.I hate time trials.

You can blame it on anyone you like, but it's a broad economic problem. Deficit spending creates a hidden tax, called inflation. Elect better representatives. It's wage exploitation, pure and simple. Back in 1960 a good job paid $90. Ticket price was $3.Now price is $30 but wages are not $900 take home, for most. It's your fault for not electing better representatives. Tracks racers and vendors all run with the same economic rules. It costs too much, because we paid inflation tax. Don't worry about the government spending money it doesn't have. You will pay it in loss of buying power.

Well my bring home is 700 a week. I work 45 hours on average a week Monday to Friday. Before taxes and insurance I make gross around 1100. But for me I pick and choose what races to go to. I live close to Eldora (30 Miles). But I tend to go to all Late Model races except the Dream and World 100 and I also go to the All Star and 4 crown. Its an economic thing. I am 33 and saving for retirement. Also with having 1 child and a wife that works we spend a lot of time doing things as a family. I think a lot of Super Late guys are doing this as well. Hit and miss and doing family things.

Also a lot of teams look at what it pays to start and tow money. if a track pays 100 tow money and 500 to start and 5,000 to win and your a 2 hour drive away and they don't charge an entry fee and charge 25 for a pit pass why not go and run. You can at least break even on pit passes if you don't make a race.

I don’t know about purses, but to be perfectly blunt...if you want to use inflation correctly...pit passes would be around 100.00 going by what we paid some 30 yrs ago
