I agree to a point, that promotion has been a fading skill since the 90's. I've watched since the advent of the "World Wide Web" too many promoters abandon older tried and true forms of advertising and promotion and focus strictly on racing message boards. What happens is they only reach out to those who were most likely coming anyway. Tracks also cannibalize each other, nothing has been focused on growing the fan base for decades. Promoters use to be showmen, now they have adopted the role as track/series "manager". The mistake that was made in the 90's by HAT was trying too much to emulate NASCRAP, now look how they are doing now, abysmal. Racing is exciting, but like the article states you can't hope for familial tradition to carry the day, we also need new blood to grow. Grow the front gate and the back gate will grow on its own, not that it can be neglected and allowed to run wild like it is now, that's bad too.
