I know it's been mentioned here quite a few times. The infamous "pass in the grass"
I found it

I was there. The following race STARS made a rule that you had to make passes on the track surface itself for it to count. I still don't know how he made it through that infield and not lose a LR, or catch an edge and roll. Back in those days inner beadlock on the LR wasn't a common thing from what I remember. That's something I'll never forget seeing.

He did not get the black flag because Billy Drake passed him in between 1 and 2 on the inside of the tires. Drake didn't get blacked flagged so the quick thinking Frank figured that if it's legal for him then it's legal for me so he returned the favor in between 3 and 4. Actually in retrospect, they both should have been scored towards last and third place maybe should've gotten the win. Shortly after that STARS issued a rule about racing inside track barriers. It was known among the touring drivers as "The Chub rule" !Originally posted by Clayton_Wetter View PostThey allowed it all right. No black flag.

Thats the video I put on yube tube several years ago. I still have it. The company that used to film those races either went out of business or just quit. I was hopeing to find the first kenricks classic race prp had with moyer and aukland virtually side by side the last 20 laps of the $15k 60 lap race.
It was STARS rule 14a , which was instituted The Monday after that race. "No driver shall leave the racing surface to gain position , such actions shall lead to disqualifycation"-not an exact quote.
If you look at the video you do see Drake going below the tires in turns 1 & 2.If your getting passed,YOUR AS SLOW AS ME !!!!

Drake ran him a clean race, and I believe he got tired of Frank shutting him off on the bottom many times. The track was not in good shape that night and no passing was happening on the high side or the middle. Track conditions can be very frustrating.Originally posted by Raceready View PostHe did not get the black flag because Billy Drake passed him in between 1 and 2 on the inside of the tires. It looked like Drake got a wheel under the buried tires on that pass.
Frank pulled a dangerous move that could have really backfired. But it didn't.
Chub and Donnie Moran always acted like they owned the bottom of that track.
