Sadly, this was 12 years after Michael Waltrip hit the exact same spot and they did little to nothing to improve upon the safety issue.
There are some very poorly designed track layouts in the dirt world and it's amazing (even though this is old) that Bristol still had such a dangerous setup then.Comment

He hit the wall right where the gate opens. That is one of the most dangerous conditions there is at some race tracks still yet.
Wondering why it was open. I don't know the pit setup at Bristol. The pits were inside of the track apparently?
