Clay Valley ???

Not seen any reports on the first race there ??

Does any one know how the racing was and how
many cars did they get?

Went there back before the dirt was put on it and
I thought it was a really nice place.

10 crates, 4 late models and 7 modified according to race monitor.

I went. They got the show running on time and as soon as one class was done they did a quick interview with the winner and then the next class was up. So that part was really good. nc mudcat's numbers were correct. They also had about 6 super stock. A young lady won that class. They HAVE to get more water on the track though. I don't know if the water truck had issues or what but when your stocks are throwing up that much dust... Anyway, if they can get that part taken care of and a few tweeks here and there they should be in good shape. Concession stand was excellent.

Saw a victory lane photo from a local guy and didn't see a single person in the stands. I know the stands are larger but most people choose to sit behind the flagman and I didn't see anyone. That added with car count numbers is not a good sign.

It was a day race, so that may have scared off some fans. Let's see what happens with the Schaeffer Spring Nationals race on April 12.

The crowd was actually pretty good for a weekly show. This picture was posted about 30 minutes before hot laps and a lot more came after hot laps and qualifying. Some of the victory lane pictures I saw were taken at an angle where you’re looking at the far corner of the stands near turn four. No one was sitting there. Oddly enough, there were not many people right behind the flag stand. You can’t really tell it in the picture but it looked like there was a platform of some sort built by the flag stand. I have no idea if that was something left over from the pavement days or not. I hadn’t been there since a Hooters Cup race in 1999 so…If the picture Wells saw was the mod class, then everyone had left because that was the last race and that guy had a huge lead so people were leaving. Plus a lot of people moved up because of the dust. That is their #1 issue they have to get under control. I know we complain about dust on here all the time, but I cannot stress enough how dry that track was.

Southwest Virginia is not a hot spot for dirt racing. Before Clay Valley, Wythe has been our only track since Richlands shut down in the early 80s. I pray it can take off. I’m tired of having to drive into Tennessee or Kentucky every week.
