Shirley had a post on his facebook saying that he was needing votes to be included in the fansfund. This, just after getting a $25,000 check from UMP. I guess it's ok to do when people think you are a 'vanilla' driver.

Correction: Shirley had 2 posts in the last day of voting asking for his fans help to be a part of the fansfund.

Oh yea? Well there ya go....although nothing against Shirley. I no longer consider him the elite.

Still, he reached out just the same.

I can respect that...maybe my standards are too high.
I feel like the top guys in the game aka: JD, Bloomer, Owens, Pierce, etc shouldn't have to reach out for money from their fans in order to make the trip to a 50k to win Crown Jewel event.
I am ok with others not agreeing with me.

Just as promoters shouldn't ask fans to contribute to make the purse for a race bigger, right?

The folks putting the fansfund deal together are doing so for this very reason....... to draw cars that are on the fence about traveling to the race. I don't see the issue. What is each driver going to get from it? $1,000-$1,500? That's a week or 2 of work for the average guy. Seems like it would be well worth a post or two asking fans to vote, that's like $500/minute straight profit. lol

Didn't the Cullen Racing team with Shirley behind the wheel, just beat the Pierce Family Racing team for the S/N title?

I realize he just won...not taking a thing away from Shirley winning the Hell Tour.

He still isn't considered elite. I doubt many (if any) would have Shirley in their top 10 drivers nationally.
Perhaps top 20, though. I'm not saying he isn't good. I agree he can still mash the throttle.

I honestly don't know. Meaning 20K or more race.

If my memory serves me right, didn't Rumley/Davenport use the fansfund during their record setting year? I seem to remember they were not going to make the trip until they were voted in? Even during the big money year they had.

Maybe I'm not remembering correctly though.

No, JD was nowhere in the top 10 in 2015. Never used the Fans Fund.

In my opinion if your in the top 25 in the country you should be considered elite and I would put Shirley in that category. jmo
