Passing points definitely are helping out the car counts too, it seems ...look at the North/South getting ready to quite possibly have their lowest car count ever.

Because for the last several years of passing points at the North/South it has been standing room only and the infield has been been full of people? Yeah, I'm sure the Kings are very disappointed.

You could not be more wrong. The majority of the fans LOVE passing points. At, I-80 where they 1st started using the passing points format for a crown jewel event, the attendance has increased every year.

At Cedar Lake when Boom Briggs criticized passing points he was booed by a large portion of the crowd.

Passing points have been around for a couple decades.

Passing points and draw/redraw are what we have here in Iowa for specials and they make for the best races. A racer isn't a racer if they can't pass cars.

Car counts are dropping everywhere, not because of passing points.

Qualifying is unheard of here unless you go to Knoxville or if WOO is in town. Weekly races are set based on weekly points and specials are either draw/redraw or passing points. Weekly IMCA late model races here are in the $600-$700 to win range.

Last year, I believe every big race but FALS had a slightly lower car count or drew exactly the same number.

The cost to race these things along with somebody always having a 5k or 10k to win race the same weekend is way more of a cause than the format.
