all this passing points stuff looks like it would lend a hand to a lot of sand bagging to me , if you are the fastest car in practice , then you would want to start last in your heat to get the most points , i guess if they start your heat with a pill draw , then its the luck of the draw , but , if they start you in your heat according to your time trial , well im gone be the slowest one on the track......

There is NO sand bagging in passing points. You get up on the wheel and drive as hard as you can. Practice has nothing to do with the pill draw. And there is no time trials at all.

I think Brian France had a hand in designing this.......we see how he "helped" Nascar!

Most of the time the heat races are set by pill draw. Combining passing points with time trials defeats the purpose.

Im a fan of most passing points systems, but not the ones that favors the racer who passed the most, instead of the winner! The winner in my book should always get the most points!

I find it humorous how many people really have no idea how the passing points system works. It's very simple and easy to figure out. My fifth grader could do it. lol. It does not involve anything other than simple addition. That's it.

It also is not new to racing. Passing points have been used for quite a few years (Probably 15-20 years).

The issue I have with Time Trials is the well funded professional teams will spend alot of time testing in the wind tunnel, pull down rig, and at the track with data acquisition just for qualifying. Some of these teams probably test more than some get to race. The more you get to practice time trialing the better your going to be at it. That is something the smaller teams very rarely get a chance to do. Lower budget teams could probably race a couple years on what gets spent on testing these days.

Dirt Late Model costs are getting closer and closer to eliminating the weekly/regional guy. It is my opinion that passing points is a way to even the chances a little bit and if the tracks see it as a way to get more people in the seats then I'm all for it. We need these tracks to survive.

That can't be. I read on here where qualifying puts the fastest cars up front and the guy just drives away from the field for an easy win.

There's always exceptions to the rule.

I can say I never went to the N/S 100 until the current format. The heats are great.

I personally will go to a race whether it has passing points or qualifying, but I find qualifying dull and I hesitate to bring non-fans to races with qualifying.

So when you heard they were going to start having passing points you just thought to yourself "it's about time, now finally, I'm going to start going to the North/South, at last!!!!!"

Not exactly, but I certainly expected more entertainment.
