If that’s fact it shows just how hard it is to find a way forward in dirt racing for a family man. Kid has a sterling resume in bigger modified events but it’s not enough. For young guys like him, Ryan Gustin, Kyle Strickler, etc. the mods don’t seem to be an avenue to bigger and better things.I hate time trials.

Someone put him in a Late Model ride. RTJ, Strickler, and others deserve to be in quality Late Model rides. They DEFINITELY have the ability and talent.#AnybodyButBobby

For the 50000000th time no one deserves anything. You people love spending someone else’s money. If they want a latemodel rocket sells them every day and Cornett , Clements , pro power , Vic Hill etc dell motors. No one “ deserves “ anyone to spend hard earned money on them. That isn’t how the world works

Strickler was top notch late model stuff all year and barely won any races. Thornton is a good racer obviously and this may be true about being burned out on racing, but if I had to bet this is just his way of trying to get a ride and if it doesn’t work he’ll start racing the mod stuff again next spring.

He said what he said. He didn't say what he didn't say. Nowhere did he mention needing or wanting a ride. He said it wasn't fun anymore. The same thing many others have said. It's alot of long hours and hard work to get to the 1 hour (if that) of fun while strapped behind the wheel. I'm guessing he will be back at some point tho.

I'd rather work a M-F 40 hour week than race for a living. I don't blame him for wanting to spend more time with his family.Originally posted by AzDirtRacin3He claims that it just isn't fun anymore. Not sure what world he lives in when you race to make a living, you have to expect it to be just like any other job. His wife ragged on a bunch of people on Facebook for they way they encouraged him(drive it like you stole it & such) because they don't understand what it is like to race for a living. Now he is saying it isn't fun. Wish my job was as fun as racing.....son of a gun. After talking with people close to him, they think by January he will have the bug again. Just needs some decompression time & with the 2nd baby due in November, no better time to shut it down than now.
