This one made me particularly sad. I really liked John Andretti through the years. I know he didn't rack up a whole bunch of wins but he was racer and he would try to race anything. Most of all, this was a really nice guy.

Yeah, it was only 2 Cup wins but it was 2 more than most who venture into Cup. John also won a CART race and also tried his hand in Top Fuel dragsters winning a couple rounds and making it to a semi-final round. How's that for diversity.

John was also a great road racer and won overall at the 24 hours of Daytona in 1989.
As I said on the Indiana Open Wheel website - Prayers to John's son Jarrett Andretti and the entire Andretti family on the loss of not only a great racer but an even better person.
I have seen Jarrett race around Indiana in Non-Wing Sprint Cars the last few years and has been pretty good.
Won a USAC National Midget event at the Paragon (Indiana) Speedway in 1985 and finished 3rd in USAC National points behind only Mel Kenyon & Rich Volger.
John mad 21 career USAC National Sprint Car starts during his time in sprint cars.
7 career starts in the USAC Silver Crown Series.
John also made the field for an NHRA event in Top Fuel at Atlanta Dragway in 1993 making it all the way to the semi final round with a top speed of 299 mph.
One of only 3 people to make an NHRA event in Top Fuel and also compete in the Indianapolis 500.
Easily one of the more versatile drivers in American Motorsports history.

I bet if you asked him, winning the 24 hours of Daytona was his proudest win. Daytona, Sebring, and LeMans are the top of the food chain when it comes to auto racing.

Very sad to hear. When he left NASCAR, ya didn’t really see him anymore. At least I didn’t. Had no idea he had cancer. Died pretty dang young and always seemed to be in good shape.

May his family let him live on in their memories and their hearts.

Sad to hear, prayers for his family. He had been battling cancer for quite a while. Jayski mentioned it a few times over the past few years.

If you’re over 55 and have never had a colonoscopy you’re asking for the same fate as Andretti.

Not sure when JA had a colonoscopy, but he was diagnosed at 53 years old. I have been doing the things since 27 years old, after getting hurt playing baseball led to a sign the led to the test. No one wants to do them, but it is worth the day of preparation.

John was old enough to possibly be my son, so to me a young man passed away. As for the colon checks I have had 4 of them. There is nothing to them other than the day before prep which is a pain. Obviously everyone should have them over 50 they say.

John won in the Petty car in NASCAR. That was an impressive task. RIP
