I followed the link and got sidetracked watching some of the videos from Tygerberg Raceway. I thought it was pretty cool really.
About 10 years ago the old ASA series tried to do an asphalt oval race at a 1.5 mile track in Phakisa (sp?). I knew three or four of the guys who went and raced in it but never had a chance to talk to them about the experience. That race had some 25 stock cars imported from the US and afterwards a few were left behind for a driving school. It never took off and that race was the last at the asphalt oval in South Africa. I don't think the Calder Thunderdome in Australia ever really met with long term success as a 1.5 mile asphalt oval either.
This however is very cool. A dirt short track featuring American style late models and midgets running counter-clockwise and their own unique classes of hot rods and right hand drive cars running clockwise. The videos are worth checking out.
Interesting that much like Australia, you can be half way around the planet and still be racing in the same equipment on a dirt bull ring. That's awesome.Political correctness,...is the inability to speak the truth about the obvious.

I saw a video of Josh Richards running a DLM against those V8 Saloons or whatever in South Africa a few years back. It looked like Michael Jordan dunking on a kid in a wheelchair.

I think Josh was in New Zealand but I could be mistaken. I remember seeing it also, those cars they run over there in that super saloons are crazy. Heavy cars with a sprint car right rear.Originally posted by Josh Bayko View PostI saw a video of Josh Richards running a DLM against those V8 Saloons or whatever in South Africa a few years back. Josh,
I actually found that video you referenced with Richards. It was in 2010 in New Zealand and, it was not a fair fight. The one I watched had him starting at the back of the pack in the US style LM and the rest of the field was the NZ Super Saloon cars. Within two laps he sliced through the pack and sailed past the leader. The pairing of the cars was a real mismatch and was much more of an exhibition than a race.Political correctness,...is the inability to speak the truth about the obvious.
