This won't be vaccined away like measles. Think more like the flu. It will mutate again and again.Originally posted by gator 49 View PostALL of the Human Race is being affected by Coronavirus not just Chinese or Americans. This is NOT a Demc. or Repl. pandemic, white, black, rich, poor. People on this board are making this political, blaming Pres. Trump for their own selfish ways. They are making this me, me,me instead of us ,us,us get real. Containment is the way to slow down this problem until the doctors can create a vaccine. I didn't say a vaccine was going to stop the virus, it's about slowing it down so less people are getting it. Everything is going on with jobs, schools, sporting events, concerts. The economy affects our daily lives and a lot of people are going to be hurt more economically than physically. Trying to control or contain the virus at this point is the best way to slow the spread to others.

Slowing down the spread is important so that we don't overfill our hospitals. 20% of covid-19 patients require hospitalization and 30% of them require ICU treatment.

Yes I listened to a health official last night on facebook that said what your saying. He said there is no vaccine and people haven't built an immunity to this virus like they have the flu. That's what makes this different so, we need to be testing 100,000 of people to get and idea where it's the worst at right now and get those people to either self quarantine or Quarantine them in a hospital and stop having people gather in large crowds to try and slow this down. It's going to be a rough couple of months that's for sure. We just need to look out for the elderly and listen to the experts in which Dr. Fauci is not afraid to tell the truth. Been around since the dawn of time. Just never had a name designation.Originally posted by kidrockAnd this is why more people might get it because, this is a new virus and people haven't built up a immunity to it.Last edited by NeedforLMspeed; 03-12-2020, 12:41 PM.2020 race count:

What you described is anything but the common flu. It's a strain more like MERS. MERS has a fatality rate between 30%-40%. Neither MERS or what you describe is what people think of when they think about needing a flu shot for the coming flu season.Originally posted by Stefan2k4 View PostThat depends on what strain of the Flu you're talking about. H5N1 is a strain that has a fatality rate of 60%, and there is NO vaccine that protects against it. Fortunately, it seems to be hard to transmit from person to person right now, and most cases are contracted from contact with birds. However, influenza viruses mutate rapidly, more rapidly than most corona viruses and there is concern that one day this could change.

My point was the "common" flu that everyone thinks of every winter has a mortality rate of 0.1%. Covid-19 is currently at 3.4% and even if it drops down to 1% like Dr. Fauci estimates, that's still 10 times as deadly as the regular flu.
By the way, none of this is a reason to stockpile toilet paper. The flu is not likely to cause explosive diarrhea, and most toilet paper is made in the US, so there shouldn't be a supply chain issue unless people just quit going to work at the TP factory.
Of course you never know with "that ole cheatin TP"
