Unfortunately, you won't get it unless you are dying. Because of our sue happy society, it has to be approved. And so far, only for grave cases. Plus doctors have probably already written a lot of scripts for friends.

20x worse? Based on what? The current mortality rate is 1.4%. 20x that is 28%. There's no way it gets that high when 85% of the people who get it have no or very few symptoms. Plus the 1.4% rate is likely higher than it actually is because of the tens of thousands of people who had it and haven't been tested.

Good luck getting some of these people to understand that logic. Lol

The flu mortality rate this past flu season was .1%.

Yes, however people rarely get tested for the flu so the 1.4 % mortality rate is deaths / people hospitalzed for the flu. That's basically what's happening with the Coronavirus now, only the hospitalized are being tested. Since a larger percentage of the population will get tested for this virus eventually, or find out they have the antibodies because they had it and didn't know it, the Coronavirus mortality rate will likely also be .1% at some point.

If that's the case, then why are we seeing hospitals in Italy fill up over covid-19 but we didn't see that for the flu this winter?

Two fold. It's wayyy worse. And more people get it from a single person. It's no joke.

Because there's 1,063 hospitals in Italy and 6,146 hospitals in the U.S.

In a recent 10 yr time frame over 200 hospitals have closed in Italy.

Italy actually has more beds/1000 people than we do. We have between 5 and 6 times the population.

Numbers are meaningless without basing it per capita.

Always someone wanting to argue. I quit posting until this passes and actual racing starts but mcarter asked about hospitals.

No argument. A hospital is full when the beds are full. And that is the real threat. If your appendix ruptures or you have a mild heart attack, your outcome gets much worse when the hospital is full of c19 victims.

Different countries are seeing 15-25% hospitalization rates with about 5% needing ICU treatment. That 1.4% mortality rate can shoot up quickly if the people who need hospitalization can't be hospitalized because all of the beds are full. Not only that, but people suffering normal day-to-day stuff like strokes, heart attacks, and car crashes won't have available beds, either.

When I was admitted to the hospital last year when there was no "pandemic" it was very near capacity and it's a very large hospital. They ended up putting me in a different section of the hospital unrelated to my illness. Therefore the staff weren't trained to take care of what I needed they always had to come from a different part of the hospital. I ended up leaving after a week and was readmitted a few days later but this time they put me where I needed to be.
