The last race they had was in 2002. Believe it or not, they had the first ever night race that year, and it was pretty good racing.

It’s a track I never got to attend. When Mineral Wells was open - I always wanted to drive up to Pennsboro and just take a look for history sake- but never did. Shame on me!!

Well, its that time again ! Time to bring out the reason why this track was as famous as most people say. Oh sure, it had its problems, it could be a dump at times, but there is two main reasons WHY I loved this track so much

Right on MM. Even us younger guys know what it meant. You just had to be there, can't describe it good enough on a computer. I remember being 7-8 years old seeing all those guys in the pits that you read about in Dirt Digest, Mid America, etc. The ones who haven't been there but want to make jokes about the place missed out.

On a side note the promoter for Tyler Co. and Ohio Valley speedways has expressed interest in possibly bringing Mineral Wells back to life. Believe he has a crowd funding thing going on looking to raise about $3 million to get the ball rolling.

They sure did miss out Pennsboro, when I first started going there in '81 only one guy went with me, a mechanic at my local garage. By the time 2001 rolled around I was getting tickets for 33 of my best friends, they dug the place as much as I did.

I’m as diehard as it gets. Pennsboro was the worst place I’ve ever attended a race. Everything about it was terrible. The track, the location, the atmosphere, the facility, the racing ... all one big joke. But I still came back every year, because all the big name drivers were there for the money, and back then you could only see them all together at two tracks — Eldora and Pennsboro.

TerryM, you could ask 100 people if the “atmosphere” was bad at Pennsboro and you would be the only one who said yes.
