I iust went to look at Davenport's racing page.
13 top 3's &
14 top 5's out of 22 races doesn't seem like all or nothing to me.
1st, 2nd, 1st, 3rd, 2nd, 1st in Arizona.
He had the 5 straight bad races in Florida where they changed cars and another 2nd.
