R.I.P. Buddy Ray Smith

Buddy Smith of Cherryville, NC passed away this morning at 11:30 . Heck of a driver, heck of a fellow!

One of the first Shrine races at Carolina Speedway I attended introduced me to Buddy Smith. I arrived just as qualifying was going, group in front of me ran across the track as Buddy was making his laps-he never cracked the throttle and missed them by inches! I think they actually gave him the incentive to go harder.... RIP, unique and accomplished racer

Sorry to hear this. I met Buddy at East Bay several years ago, he and his "NC Buddies" sat on the row right behind us, coming out of turn 4, for all those years. He sure was a nice and funny guy to be around.
