But, like Chris said, they are allowed to cut and groove the tire as they see fit. Seems like that negates what Drop Shock is saying about more sidebite. Either way it stinks to let them go through what they did in order to run that tire and the officials should get a cussing out.

NRM is a different sidewall construction from a spec tire. It's more than grooving. You cannot make both tires be the same. NRM is a much better rr tire.

My bad, I was mistaken. Been a long time since I’ve seen a 70 but if it was an NRM it would’ve said economy not spec. So that makes this an odd story, if he ran a NRM it’s pretty cut and dry that there should be a DQ, if he ran a spec tire which should look close to the LCB then I don’t really see the reason for this to be an issue.

I'm confused too. NRM isn't spec. The only other spec 70 I'm aware of is the Wissota W70, which would be the same tire, marked different. But again, it's not a D70.

Follow the money, Purple Mafia pays the series, they’d rather Fergy and all the rest buy more tires rather than use up existing supply.

What I'm hearing from reliable sources is Fergy had an LSB D70 (like a Fastrak tire). Hoosier for some reason made a batch of those. Depending who you talk to it was an accident or on purpose regardless they were made. Same rubber as an LCB D70 but those LCB tires are the spec tires (UMP, Crate, etc.) They have the bulged sidewalls and have terrible side bite. The LSB tire has the good sidewall like an open tire.

That would make more sense. Thanks for the info. So, he had a special 1-off Hoosier. I'm not surprised by that either.
