North Alabama you could not be more off on your $$$ it takes to open the gates. We had rain all day Sunday at Talladega, it was a very wise move to cancel. The total cost just to open the gates is large, very large.

That's for everything. Insurance, paying your track crew to work the track all week, concessions you have to buy ahead of time, etc., etc. It adds up. Some tracks have higher overhead than others.

Rain, biggest fear that a track promotor has to overcome. The question used to be in reference to race fans, racers understood the risk. Cancel to many times to quickly, fans find another source of entertainment and you risk loosing them for the year. I know I am in the minority but someone needs to work at actually building the entertainment side back up and look for the revenue from the fans. Seems that we have almost completely switched to 'back gate' promoting and wonder why we are loosing tracks....And you have to remember that you are not going to make money every time you open the gates; just need the good nights to overcome the bad. Cancel every time you fear you may lose and the good nights will not happen. People are creatures of habit, hook them and make sure they want to come back for your big night.

To open the gates is a very open ended statement which means anything in the world. Remember when tracks were family owned and ran, not by fly by promoters who rape everyone.

Which track are you going to revitalize and show all the promoters how to do it?

Evelb has probably raced more times this week than imcryin has brushed his teeth in the same period………he is more than qualified to give an opinion on the subject.

Go talk $hit about someone else BBQ.

When did it become a thing to tell others how to spend their money and run their businesses?

And since when do racers know best about promoting?

Sorry I haven't had time to reply, to busy getting the late model ready for the weekend (and running the kart track I am in charge of). I don't claim to be the best at any of it (not even good at most of it), just put in some opinions from time to time from the 48 years I have been racing. Not that good of a driver, but somehow I have managed to still be running a late model at 53 years of age.
