Why would you think Thornton would switch to WoO?

Because in the WoO series, the driver that performs the best during the entire season wins the points championship.

In the Lucas Oil Series, all that does is guarantee you a 4th place finish.

RTJ is the Lucas Oil Series points champion for 2023 in my book.

looking at WoO vs LOLMDS:
$20k+ to win to races: WoO 10ish vs LOLMDS 20+
if you run for WoO you would only miss 3-4 big paying LOLMDS races that are on same weekends as WoO,so if you dont like the LOLMDS point fund/chase stuff it does make sense to run the WoO tour & just hit the Big LOLMDS paying races you want to(geography being main factor)
