The golden era of dirt late model racing

I was watching AKs last video where he talked to Skip Arp about the LR hook ( https://youtu.be/hvBJ3E2W3Q0?si=v4wJw8_bWvs2uZXr) and was thinkin man….. those were the good ole days. Got me thinking, what I thought the golden age of dirt racing? Lots of opinions I’m sure but man the late 90s early 2000s to me seemed like the great years for DLM racing. So I will ask the question: What was the best decade of dirt late model racing??

probably 2005-2014 for me. as a fan the racing is exciting now but as a driver that wanted to race supers one day the costs are just astronomical to even be competitive regionally anymore so that kinda takes some of the excitement away of modern day late models. i miss the guys that could work on them just as good as they could drive them

I got involved around 1990 so anything before that isn't going to be picked by me from lack of knowledge. That being said, I have to go with the 1996 to 2006 (2007 gas/diesel was 5.00 a gallon and started to kill off local/regional teams left and right for the next 5 to 6 years). Pre-1995: Late models where struggling, didn't really come back in until the Unified body rules came out in 1995ish. Late 90's to mid 2000's, you could easily go to a 3K to 5k to win race and there would typically be least 40 LM's to as many as 80.

I just can't pick after 2007ish because that's when we started loosing the smaller to medium teams that ran mostly the regional series at a super high rate.

I would say the mid 90's (when Hav-a-Tampa races were first being broadcast on TV) until the early 2010's.

Been going to the dirt tracks since the early 60's. For me the Hav a Tampa-STARS era was my favorite. Loads of good 100 lap races to go to when I could finally drive. Memory wise I'll go with the chopped up stockers during the 70's when I saw all my childhood hero's at Interstate, Morgantown and Pennsboro.
