IT IS CASTROL FLORACING NIGHT IN AMERICA RACE DAY AT LINCOLN SPEEDWAY!
Many of the best dirt late model drivers in the country converge on Lincoln Speedway to do battle with the stars of Illinois for the $20k to win Graue Chevrolet Buick with the Castrol FloRacing Night in America presented by Kubota Tractor Corporation series.


A very interesting last 24 hours sees current series point leader for CFRINA Ricky Thornton Jr and SSI Motorsports split. RTJ has a ride lined up and is ready to do battle with the likes of Bobby Pierce, Brandon Sheppard, previous race winners Dennis Erb Jr and Hudson O'Neal, open wheel ace Logan Seavey, a driver who has been on a hot streak with the Summer Nationals Tyler Erb, and many more will be on hand to battle it out in the show of the year. Great decision for sure about ONLY running 2 classes! Wish more promoters would get on board instead of running 8-10 classes on big shows!

Twenty-two cars show up for a $20K payday on a Monday night in Illinois? With the number of good Late Models in the state plus the number of touring pros I expected closer to 50. It's a little early in the season for equipment and/or $ to be worn down. With Pierce starting up front the results were no surprise and the main was kind of a yawner but at least it was a quick show with only one other class. That was nice after suffering through what seemed like a dozen local classes at a few other shows over the long weekend to see the class I tuned in for. At least from the recliner I can tune out the boring stuff or go bake a pie.

I don't think there really is that many good cars in Illinois any more. They are not immune to what has happened across the rest of the country. A weekly show at most of their tracks is as weak as any of the ones 2 hours from me.

There were over 40 for the original date. Monday night after a long holiday weekend in the midst of Summer Nationals and both national tours starting long stretches. No excuses really. Just a lot of guys are raced out and running thin on equipment right now. But nary a thing wrong with a SOLID field and being done in under 3 hours. And one of the best shows I have personally seen at Lincoln. Other than the lead there was great racing throughout the pack. I really enjoyed that one.

And Lincoln only runs supers a couple times a year (Summer Nationals, Flo night & the UMP end of year show). That deprives them of the 10 or 15 locals that are "always there" like would be at a show at Fairbury. And frankly $20k doesn't mean what it did even 5 years ago. Guys aren't going out of their way except for the really big shows it seems. The super late model as anything other than a traveling sanction that shows up a handful of times of year is basically extinct. Kind of like the wing sprints. Only real weekly hot beds for those are Knoxville, PA, OH & way out west. Late models in IL are basically Fairbury as the only track putting on a weekly show that consistently draws a full field of late models.
