Does anybody remember the DTWC when it was in Bardstown and it rubbered up in hotlaps or something stupid like that? Drivers were dumping oil on the track.

I remember photos from 2004 showing oil splattered all over the sides and wheel openings of the cars but I can’t seem to find photos of that event anywhere. Do you guys have some photos from that race?

Yes,I was there me and my dad we drove up from tn we rode the train then went to the races.We was sitting there I told my father (not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word) SOMEONE WAS LEAKING OIL .The cars kept coming out to line up I noticed they made a few circles each.Then I would see them stop and trow item in the infield which was empty oil bottle,that track was greasy it took a good while to get it raceable...

They were intentionally dumping oil on the track? Why?

Pretty sure it was because the track rubbered up super early and was one lane and they did it in protest of the conditions.

It was in protest. The oil really didn't help as the track remained pathetic all night. One of the track prep guys said they don't cut the track up because of a lot of solid rock under the track near the surface. I didn't buy that but what can you do about it? Well that track had really big crowds when it opened and after a several years the track conditions finally drove most of the crowd off. Now they are closed and the grandstands have all been removed.

The track could be totally different as shown a couple seasons earlier when they had a lot of rain and the track was really heavy. Great racing that day, but when it was over many vehicles, trucks and racing rigs were stuck in the muddy conditions in the parking field and pits from all the rain and it was a real bummer for many campers as well. Great racing, but then many were stuck in the mud afterwards.

I drove all the way from Indianapolis. Thought I was going to see a fantastic DTWC. Instead, all I saw was follow the leader and no passing. I thought I was seeing things when drivers were pouring oil. Sad to see Bardstown close up not too much later.

I was there as well, my 1st DTWC. Me and a buddy drove the 5hrs from NW Indiana. I remember getting up on Sunday morning and an hour before hot laps, the track hadn't been touched.

If memory serves me right, Lanigan won that year.

Wasn’t there some kind of conspiracy amongst rocket guys to ensure a rocket won. I heard that if a rig or maybe a truck flashed their headlights then someone would spin to get a yellow in case anyone challenged the leader. I wasn’t there, I just remember hearing the story and seeing photos of Tim McCreadie’s car with oil splattered all over the left rear wheel opening.
