LUCAS Drivers did NOT want to run at Tyler County?

I am hearing that the reason the Hill Billy 100 was cancelled was because RTJ and Davenport as well as others have stated they wanted to run Eldora to get some track time. Is it time that we see the Hill Billy go to a Thursday Friday and Saturday show so drivers can be at Eldora on Sunday? Also is it time that the Hill Billy 100 move?

There are several factors that go into the reason the Hillbilly 100 isn’t what it use to be. The event has been totally mistreated since it’s been brought back to Tyler county imo.

For starters, we have put so much emphasis on Eldora, (I love Eldora), that the drivers almost need two weeks off before they race there. After Covid, they started doing the doubles racing on Wednesday and that gave them 1 less day to get things ready. This is the biggest reason for the demise of the hillbilly 100 and even the Historic 100 that was held at WVMS. When the drivers and series don’t want to come, what can you do? They were looking for a reason to cancel before the rain.

The Baltes classic has become a test session for the world 100, even more so than ever.

The sport is watered down with big events, races such as this, Topless, Jackson, Pittsburgher, etc are now just normal Lucas events.

Carl deserves some blame as well with the constant revolving tracks, purse has changed numerous times, etc. You can’t pay $50k one year and $30k the next and hope for the event to grow.

I feel bad for the Watsons and hometown racing association. They have poured their entire lives into the track and are left with the blame for this past weekend. Tyler County speedway is 10x the place it used to be as far as facilities. Each year they bless us with an awesome schedule with big events.

It appears the race could be on the move again and from the sounds of things, it may not be good for DLM racing in West Virginia.

I am hearing they want it at Eldora as a Tune Up to the World 100

Eldora already has enough going on during World 100 week. If some of the guys on the Lucas tour value laps at Eldora more than a scheduled series race, then they shouldn’t run the tour.

The surface at Eldora last night was not good. Hopefully they will get it worked in for the FloRacing event and all 3 nights of the World 100. It will be a tough task to keep the track from wearing out by Saturday. It seems like the dirt they added (then scraped off and later mixed back in) a few years ago just does not handle water the way the old surface did.

I don’t think the Lucas Series should schedule around the Baltes Classic. If they decide they want to, they could move the Hillbilly 100 to Saturday night. Portsmouth already has another event on the Lucas Series schedule, so they could drop the Saturday night race there and move the Hillbilly a night earlier. Teams that don’t want to run the Baltes Classic would get an extra day off before the events at Eldora, which is a benefit for them.

Hoosier Race Fan makes sense. I feel that a Saturday race would be good for everyone. It is pretty sad that a normal Hill Billy 100 gets 34 cars but a $5,000 to win race at Eldora got 65 cars and would have had more but heard a few teams opted out. Maybe the weekend before the World 100 should not have a Series scheduled race.

Too much emphasis is put on Eldora, and as a result, none of the races there are as special as they once were.

To be honest to you Josh Bayko With them just running Dream week and the week of the World 100 and DTWC its only 3 weekends. Used to run them in April, May, Dream Week, August, World 100 week, end of September for the Appleseed with the All Stars, and UMP Nationals in October. So way less racing at Eldora.

                That’s not the point.

IMHO, Eldora has too many big DLM shows now, eventually like Bruton Smith learned with copying something special, you lose value with each successive copy. In much the same way if they keep adding races to Eldora it loses its mystique and what makes it special... Lucas and WoO, just like Nascrap, have so taken over the calendar that the once independent major/regional events die. I would like to see both series go away in favor of something like "Big Johnson" was back in the day and let the teams roam around at hit the events they want to instead of chaining them to a traveling circus. Welcome to the next level that was promised and sought way back when... Its sad to watch.

To be honest what has hurt is these big races being Sanctioned by Lucas or WOO.

I did here that Carl Short was thinking of Dropping Lucas as the Hillbilly 100 sanction and running it non sanctioned but Lucas gave him some incentive. Carl said that he was disappointed in turnout for the event.

I wish the hillbilly could go back to being a big 1 day show with racers that wanted to be there. Eldora and Lucas have both crapped all over it. I love Tyler county and I love that race weekend. You can't even plan to go now, because if everything isn't perfect, Lucas will pull the rug. Maybe they should pull back a bit and make it unsanctioned.

At what point during the week will we hear a driver say they are ready to get out of there? Eldora I mean.
