Possible dirt cars on asphalt series?

Late 80's, early 90's we ran Cedar Rapids Ia shortly after it was paved. First year we ran asphalt tires, but the second year we stayed on dirt tires (old McCreary EC2). Was actually more fun on the dirt tires....

Every now and then its a novelty, anymore than that and its just another asphalt series w/ high tire bills and high engine costs and boring racing. People enjoy novelty in racing and in sex, once you make it the same the interest begins to fade. With dirt the surface is always changing and offers something a little different, asphalt is missionary with the lights off.

In sort of a reverse situation our Tri State Pro Stock Challenge traveling group allows any Hoosier tire up to 12" while our Oregon Pro Stock brethren run on 12" $25 asphalt take-offs and cars that have rather limited engines though 250 pounds lighter. The Tri State points leader still is on the old Hoosier Dirt Bozz, a great 8" tire that hasn't been made since 2021, as we often are. Last season a friend who was quitting gave us a bunch of the asphalt tires which we cut and grooved and won two shows on, one on a bone slick track and one on a notoriously heavy joint. Started this season on them with a couple of thirds, one from starting 22nd. Only got six shows in before my son broke his back in a work accident ending our season. The Oregon guys run well with us at their mostly slick tracks but only one or two of them venture south to California and do ok. I sure like the prox $180 price difference on the rubber and the cheapo tires seem to last as well as the NLMT 2s and 3s. The tires games never seem to end.
