I think Bobby has a lot of natural talent, Bob is a great crew chief, and team is just rolling. No proof but I don’t think they have some mechanical advantage. Qualifies well and starts up front a lot of nights obviously helps.
Not to take anything away from him but holy crap does he get a lot of favorable pill draws! He would be fast no matter what but he has lots of prime qualifying spots and that is a huge part of the luck that was mentioned! He will also do things to win on the last lap that guys like 157,17m and rocket1 would not do.

Their is no doubt that Bobby is maybe one of the best natural talents to ever sit in a car but in addition to that. He has the advantage of having his dad as his crew chief. Stack on top of that the fact that he happens to be driving the chassis that at the moment has the upper hand. Then take the fact that i think vics engines are probably the most powerful engine combos out their right now. I think the big trick is that they've figured out how to tame them for drivability later in the night or the power curve just happens to fit Bobby's driving style to a tee. And then their is just maturity. The kid has been wicked fast of years but lately he keeps the fenders and spoiler in tached most nights
There was some talk one time that the Pierces were getting large cubic inch engines from Hill; larger than most of the competition. If a SLM race engine is producing about 2 horsepower per cubic inch and my engine is, say, 30 cubic inches bigger than your engine, I've got 60 horsepower more than you do. Al other things being equal, I'll outrun you, not once in a while but, every time. Bobby doesn't know how to drive a track any better than any of the top shelf drivers so it has to be the equipment.
Just an observation but, his dad knows how to tweak a racecar to suit his driver... Many decades of experience tuning, building and racing together. There are probably a hundred subtle differences and tweaks under that car that the naked eye would never see. Its laughable to me how many jump to the conclusion they must have a device or something illegal. I personally don't care for their personalities or the drama they've often displayed, but you can't argue with their consistent performance. If Bobby ever goes his own way I doubt that level of performance would continue. He is good and he has gotten less, "Rock'em-Sock'em" or "Hail Mary Slider" than he once was, which I thinks adds to his/they're current success. JMO

Could not agree more about the importance of Bob Sr.! There was a race a couple of weeks ago, I forget which but the Lucas guys were there and everybody was just tail wagging so bad through the corners and Bobby looked like he was on asphalt! Bobby is a wheelman but that was a set-up clinic!
I've heard this said before but just have a hard time believing someone is born to drive a car on a clay oval faster because of DNA. He's fast because of his father. Edit: and those illegal tires
Well his dad isn't the one out there running against the wall hall in azz. Just saying. Yes you have to have a good car to do that, but You also have to have some talent to do that lap after lap after lap. He's won against the best in the business all year. The team and driver have been at their best most of the year.
