Eldora has history and facilities. Is Eldora the right place for this race? Is it too close to the World 100? There doesn't seem to be a lot of buzz about the race this year. Maybe it's me. But I'm not seeing the social media posts where A) people are talking about it and B) where people are even going.
Is Eldora the right place for the DTWC?

I feel if they are getting 70 to 80 steel blocks and around 70 Super Lates then its right where it needs to be. Some of the reason we might see the buzz not being there is simple, A) The purse needs to be for a World Championship $100,000 to win and $5,000 to start for Super Lates with the Jum Dunn race being $5,000 to win $500 to start, Mods and Steel Blocks $10,000 to win $500 to start and Street Stocks $5,000 to win and $300 to start.

I’d like to see the race moved around every few years but there aren’t very many tracks that have enough pit area space to host a show of that size and that many cars during a single race weekend.
What tracks besides Eldora Speedway have a big pit area and a large parking area for campers and parking?Last edited by HoosierDirtFan; 10-16-2024, 03:53 PM.Nathan Stephens

Really Florence could make it work easy as far as cars just have Mods and Stock Cars on Thursday Then Friday have just Steel Blocks Complete Show then on Saturday Lucas Oil Complete Show. Would be surprised in keeping the car counts around 80 each day.

Eldora is a good place for the DTWC, but they already have several major events. I agree with the suggestion to move it to some other tracks every few years. Portsmouth has already hosted, and does an admirable job. Here are some other suggestions.Originally posted by HoosierDirtFan View PostI’d like to see the race moved around every few years but there aren’t very many tracks that have enough pit area space to host a show of that size and that many cars during a single race weekend.

Lawrenceburg - beautiful facility, track prep has improved, and it’s in the middle of an area that has plenty of LM, Steel Blocks, Mods, and Stocks. It used to host a Lucas Oil race but hasn’t for several years.
Atomic - another capable facility with good racing, and they really don’t have a “big” show. Shouldn’t be a problem drawing plenty of cars.
Florence - already has a major event with the North/South 100 and the Ralph Latham Memorial is another Lucas Oil event in the spring. Clearly has the ability to host an event like the DTWC and it’s also in an area with plenty of LM, Steel Blocks, Mods, and Stocks.
Bedford - this would be a cool event to have at Bedford. Big track that races with some similarities to Pennsboro, so it would be somewhat of a throwback. Bedford already has a race around the time of the DTWC.
Beckley - this is a stretch, but I think it would be cool to have the DTWC back in West Virginia. Bleachers are pretty small and the facility probably isn’t what you want for a big event, but that didn’t stop Pennsboro for a long time.
Volunteer - a little further south than the DTWC has typically been, but it would be an entertaining track to have this event. This would be a longshot in my opinion because the DTWC should be in the Ohio Valley or pretty close.
Tri-City - the DTWC doesn’t belong in Illinois either, but Tri-City is the one track in the land of Lincoln that wouldn’t feel like a typical Illinois track. This would be a longshot like Volunteer.

No. It makes all three major late model shows lesser events. It should just go back to Atomic.

knee jerk reaction. no. too many crown jewels in one place.
2nd thought: why not? no lucas points races except this one at late model's most respected track.
3rd thought: no reason for lucas to not conclude their season there. and guessing carl short is deservedly cashing in.
last call: i wish the DTWC was unsanctioned and held at a venue where it was the biggest show of the year

I think it should be moved around every year. I’d be fine with it being at Atomic as well. It’s watered down at Eldora.

after seeing the entry list for divisions it will be at Eldora for years to come. The Steel Block Series director said they will have close to 80 there and an Eldora Official said even with the UMP Nationals they had 40 pre entered but expect around 75 for mods from what have called and they have 29 for stocks pre entered and they expect around 35 from what people have called and asked. As far as Super Lates they have said 65 to 70 is what Lucas has said.
