The Hillbilly 100 was big many many yrs ago. Now it's just another race. the purse hasn't grown or the format. The good old days are behind us and Carl is just going after the money now.

And a lot of that is Lucas's fault. It should have always been independent. They basically got north wilksboroed. It was the original, biggest one day show and the DoD and Lucas boys refused to even call it a Crown Jewel when they called everything one.

From about 2006-2009, it was fairbury before fairbury. Those who were there then, know.

For whatever reason, you’re right, the Hillbilly never got the attention it deserved from the people who “run the sport”. They basically treated it as another Lucas race the last 10-15 years.

There are a lot of factors in its demise, in West Virginia. (Lucas, the importance of Eldora, lack of media coverage, Carl himself are all to blame).

I was there in 08, the place was hopping. It was the year they parked flat bed semi trailers in the infield for people to stand on. I feel as you said, it started losing its luster after that.

The fans that were that night, seen an outstanding race.

Excited that Circle City Raceway in Indianapolis is getting a Lucas date next year! Perfect timing with Florence the next night. Late models provide tight action at CC! Now if they can also get a Northern All Stars date, too!

People have been critical of Barry Braun, myself included at times. But he has the opportunity to be a hero to fans in West Virginia.

I’ve had conversations with a couple area promoters about Lucas Oil and where the sport is headed. It’s nascar 2.0 and there’s really no denying it.

Yep. You said it right. The chase deal sucks as well, anybody trying to emulate Nascrap is stupid.

Wouldn’t be surprised if charter system is in the future at some point.

I agree. Circle City has really improved in the past two years. It might be the only race on the 2025 Lucas Oil series schedule I am looking forward to.

The additional money will be nice for the teams and drivers. Despite that, I don’t think the Lucas Series is moving in a positive direction for the sport with some of the changes they have made to become more like NASCAR. Many of the “big events” that were must see in the past have been neutered by becoming just another event on the Lucas or WoO schedules. It would be nice to see some of the regional series of the past make a comeback. The Northern All Stars is a good example. The STARS series was fantastic. Events just had a different feel when they were part of those series or unsanctioned.

Stinks that Tri City is no longer on the schedule.
