Did someone hurt their precious feelings with mean words or did something real happen?

It was inevitable once they got bought out. I've personally NEVER seen a company get "Better" after a buyout/sell. NEVER. Give me a family owned/operated business every time. Sure do miss "Pup".

I assure you that the Continental tire company doesn’t actually consider American Racer actual competition.

                  I don’t disagree.

The bigger issue with AR is that they’ve had trouble staying open for practically their entire existence, and they haven’t ever been able to make enough tires to give Hoosier genuine competition, even with Hoosier’s NASCAR failure.

Goodyear has the scale to compete with Hoosier, but dirt people are extremely resistant to all things Goodyear.

I’d like to see someone like Michelin or Falken get into the dirt tire market.

                  The more the merrier.

I do think there is also some good from the corporate side that some are afraid to call out. For years big name drivers could get tires that others couldn't; I do believe that Hoosier has put their series all on equal footing. Goodyear did this back with the short lived Extreme series (yes, the tires quality was suspect but it was the same for everyone); big corporate tire manufactures do not care who wins so making special tires is not likely to happen.

The only Hoosier tire scandal I was ever aware of was the little red haired fellow from North Georgia relabeling tires so well the factory couldn't tell the difference by looking. The rumor about special tires for special people I never saw any evidence of.

I can tell you 15 years ago it was happening, and not just Hoosier....Not saying it is still going on (or that it has in the last few years), but it is not a rumor when you are the one actually picking them up from the tire truck... Again, long time ago but there was definitely some competition between manufacturer's at the time. I do think it was more about making sure their tire won verses a specific driver, but it happened. Haven't seen anything to suggest it is still an issue but I am not up the food chain high enough to know.

It's no rumor. If you didn't have his tires in the late 90s/ early 2000s, you were getting beat by them, if you were racing under a d55 rule. All you had to do was squeeze some tires in the lineup chute.

" making special tires is not likely to happen."

But it did at one time when AR was making headway. Several SLM drivers I knew thought the AR to be a better tire and at some point, Hoosier started putting comp tire compounds in their spec tires to get a leg up on AR while AR stuck to their compound distinctions. We all have been to races where a van would come with tires and deliver to only one driver, back in the day. I agree with another poster though that the field might be level in today's racing. Unfortunately, look how (not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)ty the Hoosiers were at the National 100 last weekend.
