HTF and regional tours

a little pot stirring but i have to applaud what they have done. i'm old so i have fond memories of very successful regional tours for open late models.

seems for the most part they are things from the past, never to be resurrected. the hunt the front group seems to be succeeding.

The HTF deal seems to be doing well. I don't care for all of the support classes, it works for them I guess. I would say they are the best regional series going right now.

HTF has some very impressive purses. I'm disappointed with the Mars series and their $5000 purses. They could do much better.

I wish the HTF series would venture up into West Virginia, since the national tours have boycotted us.

They’ve done a really nice job with the HTF series in just a few years. It is quickly becoming the southern equivalent of what the STARS series was to the north in the 80s and 90s.

HTF is doing a good job, the problem is the tracks in the southeast. they are usually rubbered 1 lane trains=boring. until the track owners start farming tracks as needed the racing will suffer. Its not anything black dirt wouldnt fix but the cost to bring it in would be prohibitive to all but a few. I am fortunate to have grown up watching races on tracks with good soil. I wish everyone could have.

alot of the tracks down here race great. Whynot, Magnolia, talladega, I-75, senoia, duck river all race great. On the flip side we went to brownstown bullring last year for the b mod deal and ive never seen a place take rubber so fast

You are correct, some great southern tracks for sure. I will say though, the dirt in the midwest is hard to beat. The area I am in most often (the Carolina's) does struggle with the dirt (as do some of the Georgia tracks); however several of the promotors are working hard to correct this and my hats off to them (Lake View Sc,Fayetteville Nc, Sumter SC seem genuine in trying to fix their issues). I also wish they could drag some good old southeast Iowa dirt down but know that cannot happen.

Even if they brought black dirt to the SE you will still have the same issues. The water table, year round temps, humidity, etc would make the dirt difficult to do anything with. It's just more difficult to get track prep right here. The sandier dirt is so abrasive and doesn't hold moisture as well. Even the good red clay dries fast with the big high HP engines and wide soft tires. Classes with the skinnier tires and less HP always seem to be able to race better. We are lucky to have some tracks that have figured it out and some that really out forth much effort to try to figure it out. I would still rather listen to a dirt late model race through a walkie talkie than to go and watch some racing. So I am always happy just to be there.

I was thinking the same thing. I would think at least 10,000 to win for MARS
