97 trying something different...

Anyone notice in the Flo coverage from Eldora that the Dillard car (97) was sporting solid sail panels? Only car in the field to do so.

Wonder what they thought might help in that application.

I like that most modifieds have stayed with solid sails, but it's going to be a hard to make it work with late models and that huge spoiler. The sails are blocking air from hitting the spoiler when in yaw.

If you look close, the fillers actually start before the actual sail.

Maybe some thinking that on a larger high speed track if you could keep the car straighter and in less yaw the closed sail panels would direct air to the spoiler better? Just kind of interesting seeing something tried that everyone pretty much moved away from several years ago. If he sticks with it, we'll see...

I think Jackie Boggs always ran with full panels...maybe that was a Swartz thing.
