Scott Bloomquist didn't know me from the many thousands of folks he interacted with through the years. But every time I spoke with him he was really nice to me and took the time to visit for a few minutes. He was genuine and relatable to me and I appreciated that. I came to really like him and appreciated his talent and what he brought to the track.

When the plane crash happened I immediately had my suspicions because of my past professional history. In a law enforcement career I dealt with too many suicides to count. I've dealt with it in my own family. My racing hero growing up was D!ck Trickle and he ultimately ended his own life which is still bothersome. It is all very sad and I feel for his family and friends and his many fans.

You don't always end your problems when you end your own life, you give them to the people who are close to you and care about you. That's what sucks. The pain and depression gets handed off. We can say that we understand and a person goes out on their terms and sometimes yes, when facing a debilitating terminal illness it can be understandable. But when it is untimely and a permanent solution to a temporary problem, it hurts a great many people in the circle of family and friends and leaves questions and confusion behind.

I've been telling my wife all along it wouldn't surprise me at all of this was he went out. Think about it. It didn't matter what it was, chassis, tires, rules, or just everyday life, it didn't matter, he did things HIS way. Regardless if it was right or wrong. This was his way of going out.

I never was a fan of his, but I have always respected what he had accomplished. I had actually gotten a soft spot for him over the last few years, I wanted to see him do well. He will be missed for sure.

Kind of the same here. He was never my favorite though I never "hated" him like some did. I typically like to see new winners at the big races & he sucked up a lot of those W's over the years. The older he got the more rare the wins became so it was cool to see him win in the later years. Saw him win several Dreams & was at the 2014 World 100 window net race. That one is his legacy defined in 1 race. Pushing the boundaries of the rules (or found a gray area), got punished for it & then responded with the biggest butt kicking in Eldora history. It was seeing the GOAT at the absolute height of his power.

And no one today or in the past brought a visceral reaction from everyone like he did. For driver intros at the Big E, some get lots of cheers, some get lots of boos, some get lots of both, but he is the ONLY one that got something from everyone in the place. They either booed, cheered, flipped him the bird, clapped or some other reaction. Everyone cared when he was on the track.

To everyone:
don’t put alot of thoughts into the witness statement about a heart condition. If it was true- only Scott knew it. The witness was not a reliable character.( and that’s putting it nicely)
Kenny Wallace had a segment on the side effects of pain pills: suicidal tendencies. Example -(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word) Trickle.
Sadly- at the time of Scott’s death his life was kinda crumbling in before his very on eyes.
That’s a hard pill to swallow for someone who had been at the top for close to 40 years.
Getting older, health/body concerns, financial issues, and the fact that his eyesight was fastly diminishing.
He was an extremely proud man and over the last few years was seeing his Glory Days just become a memory.
It’s tragic/sad for those of us who knew him or those who were aware of his racing history- but sometimes “ Life Sucks.”
Enjoy every day to the fullest because the “ River of Life” only flows in one direction!

nothing against jd but he drives for the richest guy in the pit area and they buy the best stuff out there. hes good no doubt but there will never be another scott like him or not

I didn't know JD's car had auto pilot. I was under the impression he had to actually drive it just like everybody else does. For a long time, Scott had the best stuff out there too, if that is the measuring stick. RTJ isn't driving for mr. money bags but he's a force to be dealt with by his competitors. Nobody is trying to stop you or anybody else from idolizing or hero worship. They have done the same thing with Dale Earnhardt but neither he nor Scott are the greatest thing since slice bread. Top shelf drivers, for sure. If either was as great as some would want you to think they were, they would have won every race they entered.

I think building your own car and running your own team puts you in another class. There isn't a single car on tour now that was built from the ground up by the person driving it with the possible exception being Sheppard but he didn't design the car.

I'd never heard of this "witness" statement, if its true and accurate, he didn't need to do what he did... My father had 7 bypasses back in 1995, then several stints in 2006 and he's still kickin in his mid 80's. He'd be doing even better had he not taken the poison death jab and 2 boosters, but I digress. Point is, even if he(Bloomquist) didn't want the stints, there is knowledge out there now on cleaning your arteries homeopathically and/or with diet. It would have meant giving up all that $hit they found in his blood stream, but with a little effort and determination he could've reclaimed his life and some glory too. I'm disappointed and I'm angry, because it didn't have to be this way. Too many funerals for me as of late, most were completely avoidable with minimal changes. Drugs, Just say no.

He also had two absolutely brutal wrecks in last few months of his career. Totaled two cars that weren't even his. I really thought he was gone at Eldora. But in the HFT race crash he took half-dozen hard shots. Had to have hurt. But he also relished the tough guy image and would never admit he was hurting.
