Poor Royal Jones has one of the nicest race tracks in the country that he can not attract fans due to the climate and location.

I know you don't mean poor in the monetary sense and Forestt Lucas is in the same boat. His problem isn't climate but just a bad location in the middle of nowhere. Sure there's a few other jewels like those two around the country with the same problems. Like the realtors love to say, "It's location, location, location."

Can anyone knockdown the current Lawrenceburg Speedway and relocate Vado or Lucas there? Asking for a friend lol

As someone that’s followed this event from day 1 (as a fan), I will say that climate definitely played a factor. Crowds were a lot larger in Az. When this event was in Az (whether it be in Casa Grande, Tucson, or Apache Junction), I’d say 70% (or more) of the crowd was from out of state and from places wanting to escape the cold weather. Why didn’t Vado not get the crowd and all of the visitors they were getting in Az? I’d say it was definitely the climate… Remember the snow canceled the Wednesday night show this year? Yes, that probably wouldn’t happen again in the 20 years, but it’s not going to help their case either in regards to drawing new fans and race teams out this way. It’s not just the fact it was cooler there than Az, but the wind was BRUTAL.

I also feel bad for Royal Jones as he is truly a class act. I’ve been a fan of his from his days of him and Jimmy Ray towing all the way out to Yuma, Az. in the early 90’s (with open trailers) just for a Saturday night show. It was back then I realized just how much love and passion he has for this sport. This was long before seeing his name on many cars in many different classes that we see today.

I was pretty much a regular at the Casa Grande shows and think I went to it at Tucson once coming from northern California and AZ could freeze your goolies every bit as well as Vado. The track was a bit on the scary side and could kiss you one night and destroy you the next. Just ask Ken Schrader, a winner one night then rolled it off 1&2 the next. Pretty much gave the car away in bits and pieces to fans who wanted a souvenir. Casa Grande was in turmoil with politicking and some questionable promoters for years and finally shut down. AZ has pretty good Mexican food but can't beat New Mexico's Tex-Mex and chiles. Yum.
