Every sport has heros and villains, the dirt racing world had a guy who played both, his name was Scott Bloomquist. I first saw him race at a 1993 UMP Summer Nationals event at our weekly track in Sauk Centre. MN, and I was a fan ever since. He built his own racecars and fabricated parts for them in a sport where most everyone else buys them. He was an icon, arrogant, successful, mysterious, controversial, fast on the track, and did everything his way and to the beat of his own drum. Like all villains…..you either loved him or hated him, but everyone respected his race craft and what he could do behind the wheel of a race car. Today is sad and shocking, he died this morning flying his small plane near his home. Im glad I was able to see him run his last race last year at Cedar Lake Speedway. RIP to The Voodoo Child…Black Sunshine…The Dirt Trax Dominator…The GOAT….My favorite race car driver………from Mooresburg, TN…Scott Bloomquist. 🏁👽☠️

When I went to the first race at LaSalle this year, I thought about him. Seeing all those heavy hitters of today there, I knew there was a time when "If 'ol Bloomer were here" they'd all be running for second.

He was Iconic and without peer. Many race DLM, some build DLM, but very few achieve the rarefied status of Racing, Winning and building successfully, and all at the same time.
