Are Asphalt short track drivers that much better than the national dirt drivers?

Major asphalt races start 32 to over 40 cars. Asphalt drivers double file restart on every single restart.

it seems it takes less talent to run in a 24 car field on these major events and go to single files at some point. Does Lucas and world of outlaws think they are drivers? Are that much less talented?

Personally, I think NO, as both are different types of racing discipline. JMHO

Don't think so. The larger fields is because most of the bigger asphalt shows are 2-300 laps and are bound to have more cars fall out. The dirt guys also get more of a beating on the ever changing dirt. I've run both and it's a completely different style of racing with different skillsets required.

Look at in-car videos of a dirt late model driver and then look at in-car videos of an asphalt driver. After doing so, come back on here and spout your BS then.

A really good dirt late model is pretty easy to drive, it’s ate up with grip and as long as you have some discipline with throttle control in the slick, it’s not bad.

asphalt is much of the same. I’d say with the g’s being higher in an asphalt car plus the lack of air movement in the car, I’d say asphalt takes a higher toll on the body.

I’ve won my fair share of DLM races, and I’ve always respected the asphalt guys because of the strength needed to run 200 laps.

I've actually driven both, though the asphalt 'career' was short lived. Personally, dirt is more fun to drive- two different disciplines. I think the reason I prefer dirt is the ability of the drivers to work on an ever changing surface. Yes, asphalt changes but not near to the amount dirt can- East Bay was so much fun because half way through the feature the tides could throw a major curve ball at you. Dirt tracks have more 'character' in my opinion, so the drivers have to adapt a bit more than other oval track racing.

Asphalt guys are good at their craft just like the best dirt racers are. But what you don't see real often is asphalt guys switch to dirt and be very successful. Carson Brown is a good example. He's a proven winner in asphalt Supe Late competition but so far hasn't been able to get out of his own way in dirt late models. And thats with one of the best crew chiefs in the business turning wrenches for him and hands down the best funded team out there aside from Double LL, and Coltman Farms probably. They take a convoy with them when they go racing. Some of the most successful cup guys came from sprint cars like Tony Stewar, Jeff Gordan, Kyle Larson, etc. Some people can just drive a car no matter what, but those guys are few and far between.

Track prep is easier for the promoter, and the facility stays cleaner.

Go ask Brad Mueller. He runs both. He wheels an asphalt super late model at Slinger Speedway and also a dirt late model at Plymouth and with the Dirt Kings series. He's won in both.

Jimmy Mars won Rookie of the Year in the NASCAR Midwest Series pavement series back in the late 90s and beat Jamie MacMurray for the honors when he did it. It would be interesting to get his thoughts on the subject.
