I don't know that Eldora wants to eliminate the sandbagging in qualifying, but if they do, they should spin a Wheel Of Misfortune after qualifying using numbers 1 to 6. I'm pretty sure that would kill any sandbagging. I realize that sandbagging hurts points, but for the better drivers, they'd rather not be at the top of the points anyway.

I know. It's just ridiculous. And sandbagging qualifying also sets you up so you get a good spot in the heats on Saturday. Right. And if the points ended last night and they spin a 6 on the wheel, Davenport would have been starting on the pole of a heat race on Saturday. If he wins the feature tonight and they spin a 6, he'll likely start top 3 in a heat on Saturday.Originally posted by AJMcCool View Post

I'm not a fan of inverts because I think it's wrong to penalize performance, but this is how Earl wanted it alive or not, it's still his race. He made the rules, so anyone that doesn't like it can stay home. Well if a driver like Davenport had the point system all figured out, why would he not of been in the top 18 in qualifying in Thursdays race. He started in the 4th row and won his heat by passing 7 cars in less than 12 laps. The guy has Eldora figured out better than any other driver ever has (sorry Bloomquist and Moyer fans).Comment

He missed the invert on night 1 by a couple of positions. And for sure he has the system figured out. I think there is a risk/reward situation in play. If you miss the qualifying invert by a bit, you start 7th or 8th, which is still starting out as a transfer to the Shootout. If you hit it, you start first and your points are lower to set the heats for Saturday. I think he managed it well. I hate to see anyone sandbag qualifying, but the rules are the rules. And like I said, if you do a Wheel of Misfortune after qualifying, then people can't sandbag since they won't know where the invert is.Originally posted by TBSprintFan View PostComment

Another option would be to still do the invert but lineup the feature transfers based on combined qual and heat points. Knoxville sprint nationals does that. They invert like 8 in the heats so if a guy wins heat from pole he will start pretty deep in feature field cause his poor qualy time buries him a bit. That helps to prevent the sandbagging on prelim nights.Comment
