I love Essex and I like DJ solo, but I don't know...when you get the two of them together at Eldora and they (especially DJ) and they are yucking it up over inside jokes and silly things for an entire Shootout race....yeah....someone needs to tell them "a little bit less open mic hacky comedy and a little bit more calling the actual race". They just chuckled it up during one entire 12 lap shootout. On the last lap it was like "oh yeah...and coming to the checkers..". I mean what the h3ll? Some sort of stupid jokes about the 50/50 that no one gets? Come on guys. You're better than that.

IMO, Essex and Ben are the best pair in the announcers booth. Put Dustin to doing driver interviews after the heats. That’s all the time that he needs on the microphone. He has no humor in him but he still tries too hard to be funny which makes him sound like a clown all the time. More Randy Weaver would be great.

I enjoy them most of the time. I agree there’s a little too much play but they’re both very knowledgeable and call the action better than most. Chris Stepan would be a great addition, the most underrated announcer in the country imo

Not at all. If you watched the broadcast last night you would understand where these comments are coming from. More time was spent talking about the 50/50 then an actual race that was on the track. They acted like it was some great thing they beat the 50/50 record, but there should be an * next to it since the pot started at 40 grand due to an unclaimed night.

I like Dustin and James. But it seems like when they are together they quickly get off track and start telling jokes and laughing at them and it starts to take over the broadcast. When James is by himself, he does a fine job. Him and Dustin together they struggle to keep the train on the tracks. Much respect for both of them, sometimes like on a sports team, pairings don't gel well.

Chris Stepan is probably the best as far as getting across the need to know information and just calling the race on the track. Always keeps the same tone, does not get excited or scream and yell into the microphone. Wish FLO would find a way to make him a part of more broadcasts.
