Not at all. If you watched the broadcast last night you would understand where these comments are coming from. More time was spent talking about the 50/50 then an actual race that was on the track. They acted like it was some great thing they beat the 50/50 record, but there should be an * next to it since the pot started at 40 grand due to an unclaimed night.

I like Dustin and James. But it seems like when they are together they quickly get off track and start telling jokes and laughing at them and it starts to take over the broadcast. When James is by himself, he does a fine job. Him and Dustin together they struggle to keep the train on the tracks. Much respect for both of them, sometimes like on a sports team, pairings don't gel well.

100% this. There was that one year where they were joking about the Rat 1 and other car numbers and I think was the same year with the Big Snack jokes and it's like they have been trying to recapture that ever since. There was the one year...I think 2017 where every time a car got within a length of another, DJ would start shouting "OOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHH" over and over again. That was the year the silliness started over the top. I love James, but he's much better with Ben or anyone else for that matter. It's not that DJ's bad, he just doesn't need to be in the same both with The Great James Essex

Before DJ and Ben started working most of the Lucas races, the only time you heard these 3 together was some Speed weeks and Eldora. They did a great job because it was like getting together with your buddies you hardly see and enjoyed the weekend of racing together. But now that they are around eachother more, they have gotten comfortable, joking often, getting off track, and not professional. Heat 6 was spent joking and talking 50/50 record til 2 to go.

I’ve heard James run out of words and lose his mind and go “aaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!!!” Quite a few times. James tries too hard to cheese it up. He and Eshelman both did.

I don’t think any of them have ever been all that great. But I also don’t understand all the hate that people have toward them. They’re play by play guys who love the sport and dedicate a lot of work to it and I respect it, even if I don’t like their cheesy one liners.

I couldn't agree more. I remember one season talking with Rigsby in a Speedweeks PPV chat and telling him that seeing him, Ben, DJ and James again was like catching up with old friends. To an extent, I'd be fine with some of the joking around, but I think reading all the positive feedback they've gotten in the past only encourages them to continue expanding on it until you get what you have now. We don't need to be told how much fun they are having. We don't need to be told how great the racing is. We're watching. We know. You know what we also know? That Ben and DJ are short. That joke wore out the second time they told it. We also know that everyone loves Randy Weaver. He's got a lot of knowledge and adds a lot to any broadcast. We don't need to be reminded a few times a broadcast. We are listening to him speak. We know.

All of these guys are great. They have incredible knowledge of the sport. They do a great job calling the races when they stick to what's happening on the track. Ben always seems to come up with good questions that keep the usual post race interviews interesting. I know it ain't easy to fill 4 hours a night for three nights and keep it interesting, but at a bare minimum, when the cars are on the track, talk about what's happening on the track. Do more driver interviews or pre-record them and run them during breaks.

Even at their absolute worst, DJ is better paired with James than Bob Dilner ever was. At least DJ knows the sport. They just need to cut back on the yuck yuck stuff...A LOT.

I don't think anyone hates them. I know I don't. They seem like nice guys. They do a great job most of the time, but things have gotten over the top lately. I don't want to see them replaced. I want them to tone down. Essex is still my favorite announcer.

I have always wished that providers would offer a stream option of just the live camera feed. I know you could just press the mute button but I’d rather be able to at least hear what roar of the engines I could over a lot of the announcers but that’s just me.
