The Dirt Parlor Podcast with Mark Richards

Nice podcast hosted by Gordy Gundaker with Mark Richards as guest. Recommend checking it out. Like what Mark had to say at the 53:45 mark.

Thanks for sharing, Weatherman. That was a good listen. Mark Richards always gives honest answers whenever he's interviewed. His comments about side-force were interesting.

He comes across differently than I'd expected. Guys like him want to do stuff and not particularly talk about doing stuff. Was lot more patient than I expected. But he's also getting old. Changes you.

Did find his suggesting there are too many rules interesting when he was the ringleader getting rid of the straight axle car.

Good Interview. Surprised I agreed with him on some things. IMHO, they wayyyy overreacted after 2015 and outlawed far too much and then wrote rules they couldn't/wouldn't/shouldn't enforce. Stupidly saw themselves following in nascrap's footsteps, but just like the old maxim about "those who can...do" I think the same holds true for rule makers and officials, they don't actually understand racing or race cars, but believe they know best.

As long as the flo group keeps making money, the path won't change. They think the racing is the best it has ever been.

Agreed KTM. While I like most of what mark said, I couldn’t help but chuckle when he said that about the rule book. Pretty clear Mark blames Kevin Rumley for the direction of late Models and he probably lumped AK into that without really knowing what AK did or how he did it at the time.

Sounded like he blamed every person that glorified engineers every chance they got and chased off the regular guys. Not the actual engineer that started it all. As far as ak is concerned i don't think anyone was scared of his car (besides maybe shane clanton)the main reason being it was only really good in a particular condition. My opinion of what got it axed was him saying in multiple interviews that he thought he could outsmart the best guys in the sport. If he had just took his success and thanked those that supported him and moved on he would most likely still be running that car but he poked at the bears and they gave a little bite.

They say that because they won't say anything negative about anyone or anything (unless it's a regular person on the internet) because they are not journalists and won't bite the hand that feeds. I doubt they really think this era of whoever gets out of turn two first wins is better than any other era.

I think they enjoy their place in it, so to them, it is amazing. Just as I think it's trash because they ruined it for me and many others.

the problem with alot of it is you have guys that make big decisions that couldnt tell you the difference in a birdcage from a j bar. I thought francis would do something useful but i was wrong

It's become way to political so to speak. Just like nascar the money has ruined it. Many of the current drivers major sponsors also sponsor the series in some way so if some driver complains his sponsor threatens to pull their support and the series just folds to his demands. We don't really have sanctioning bodies we have series differences being all the series cares about is the money and the show sanctioning bodies were their to keep the playing feild even and help limit cost. I also agree with what MasterSbilt_Racer said i don't think that the announcers and media in general are afraid to call a spade a spade. They are just too close and their perspective is skewed. Also the less your involved on the technical side of the sport the less you really know about what has caused alot of the current issues

You weren't alone there. Like every other corporate entity, they probably just fire anyone that rocks the boat. Change will only come from the top down.

And if body rules were enforced they would act like they've been for the change the whole time. They're like politicians.
