SUPR pit stop race

the pit crew challenge thing at the dome got me to thinking back 30 years ago when the Louisiana based SUPR late model series had what was called the SUPR Star race at Lone Star Speedway in Kilgore Texas, the race had a mandatory pit stop, it was won by 60 year old school teacher John Lovas, I remember that race because an underdog won it, I think they held a second one in 1996 (at Boothill or maybe it was Devils Bowl) but I can’t recollect who won that one, I think two was all they ever held, not sure why, as it was something unique.

Someone else could probably answer this, I'm too young to remember. Florence had a race called the "ironman." I think it was a 200 lap race.

I don't know if it had pit stops or not.

Mr. Lovas did win that first one at Kilgore. My wife and I and my Dad went to that race.

The next year was at Boothill,and I swear it was during the day on Sunday for some reason. I can't remember if it was rescheduled,or it was just scheduled that way from the get-go. I remember my Dad going and getting sunburned really bad,and covered up in dust and rubber.

It was in the pre-internet days so we either knew it had been rescheduled or most likely called the track. I used to be able to remember stuff like this.

I was living at home. My grandfather was playing music in a festival at Six Flags in Dallas so we all went because we got in the park for free. I think my wife (girlfriend at the time) and I stayed in Dallas until late afternoon before coming home versus going to the races. My Dad rolled out I-20 from Dallas all the way to Boothill. We got home at the same time,though. I'll never forget how red and dirty he was,lol. My Mom came home with my grandparents.
