Brandon Overton is off to a hot start and has had speed. The pressure of not being in the Longhorn house car combined with him doing some of his own setup stuff again seems to be working!

ORF, you bring up a good point. So that is the question of the day for everyone.
When drivers take a roller coaster ride from one season to another, like Brandon did, with the surrounding obstacles he faced —- does one think it was really the pressure of being in the house car and someone else calling the set-up, or was it his year to simply just be “off” all together? Or was it something else?

He's racing in his own backyard against mostly regional racers. I would hope he would do well

I would agree with that when they were racing at Screven. The field at Volusia was more than just regional racers and I wouldn't consider Volusia in his backyard.Originally posted by Highside Hustler25 View PostHe's racing in his own backyard against mostly regional racers. Volusia has traditionally been a decent measure as to weather a team has found some consistent speed as compared to other Florida and Georgia tracks. It will be intesting to see if he can carry the speed through the week and on. As to the pressure being the problem last year i don't think so. While Rumley and Longhorn are clearly the best overall package right now the house car has never been anything spectacular and has consistently been a revolving door. Theirs no foundation or consistency or really team they just label whoever wants to pay their bills for the year "house car" very similar to what bw used to do but at least with that program you got Barry. The Longhorn house car is basically a parts deal. Racing is far more about team chemistry and confidence than most anything else. Overton has always done well when he has more control over the shots being called. It just is what it is he's happier this way and when Overton is happy the competition is usually in trouble lol

Based on absolutely nothing, my gut feeling is that Overton is at his best calling the shots. I don't have a lot of faith in Riggs considering their track record, but he has the car at his shop now, right? I think that has more to do with it than anything.

That's a very good point. Didn't Burroughs crew chief for Don O'Neil for Bowyer? I can't remember for certain but I thought he was crew chief in his Lucas championship year.Originally posted by Tireguy17 View PostBurroughs is the common denominator, average crew chief for everyone but RTJ, and RTJ proved last year he didn't need a big crew chief to have success.

Burroughs crewed for both bowyer cars while he was there. He was once a crew chief for lanigan when he drove for Clint as well.Originally posted by Snake X3 View Post

Jeremy Justice was Don's crew chief the year he won the title. He stayed with Don for one more year after that, then went back to North Carolina to run the family business.

they had a pretty good battle for the lead on Saturday which was ruined by Overton pulling up lame in order to put on a new right rear with 15 to go.
final rundown showed he got 10 or more spots out of that deal.
thought that was no longer allowed in either series?
