No Off-Season

Anyone else just not excited for the "Start" of the National Tours?
I think the fact that there is no longer an off-season, and having streaming options to consume so much racing, is at least making me less and less interested at least for Speedweeks. Maybe I'll get more into it come April. I feel like the sport needs a 2 month off-season.

Agree 100 percent. I am also a fan of 410 sprint car racing in Central Pa..I feel by them being off for three months builds an excitement for the new season to start. DLM's are lucky if they had THREE weeks off since last season.

I used to say the off season was late febuary-March. But with the changing of speedweeks That’s not happeneing

The off season begins after speedweeks when it rains everything out from beginning of March til mid May most of the time.

All jokes aside, I didn't watch much of the WWS. It just didn't interest me as much. Plus, the chilli bowl was on. Much better product of racing.

Mentally the season ends for me after the World 100. I still watch all of the Lucas races through the end of the season, but I kind of shut-off after the World. Speedweeks don't seem quite as special as they used to, but now it's less the start of the season and more like Spring Training. I barely pay attention to the WWS anymore. I don't care about the dome race. I really don't turn back on until the first races of March.

I'm thankful for the abundance of racing year 'round. I think it's great drives can earn money throughout the year, but as a fan, I burn out completely after the World.

This has been brought up from time-to-time on this board and I completely agree. I am nowhere near as die hard as a fan as I once was. I contribute that to several reasons.

1. The way the cars look and race now
2. Streaming options
3. Just TOO much racing without a real break.

I remember growing up where one of my favorite local tracks always ran the same set schedule of 1st weekend in April - last weekend in September. They would try to get a rain out date in 1st Saturday of October if the original last race rained out. Basically 6 months of racing with 6 months off. Man would I be dying and ready to go come the1st of race season. Absence truly does make the heart grow fonder. I feel like this had to be a win/win for the track owner and drivers as well. A true off season to get everything in order and you know, do something other than racing. Not to mention the mental break I'm sure the owners/promoters enjoyed.

Agreed on multiple fronts.

As Weatherman indicated the product just isn't as compelling anymore. The cars just don't race that good on the bigger tracks (1/2 mile) as has been discussed at length on this forum. The list of winners or potential winners at the WoO & Lucas races is shorter than ever.

Once you start seeing the same thing every night & the same 3 or 4 guys win it gets stale real fast.

There is a bit of "overexposure" with so many streaming options. A solid break from say early November after Charlotte to now would help. But heck some of the guys have raced probably 20 nights already between the dome, Wild West Shootout, WoO at Volusia in January & Speedweeks.

The horse is already out of the barn as far as streaming options during the wintertime. We are racing and streaming 12 months a year now and that's not going to change anytime soon..

I agree. These lopsided cars with the rear ends that jack up in action to the point they are wedge cars are hideous, and produce horrible racing.

With streaming, who needs to spend $ on gas and tickets, sit on a hard bleacher, eat dirt, go to a filthy restroom and eat overpriced mediocre food when one can see it in the comforts of home. Plus you can just turn it off if its boring without wasting much $, Which it usually is due to the poor product.

There is racing year round, so now the beginning-of-the-season rush and higher crowds are no more...

ALL of this lies on poor decisions of the promoters.

That is true. But burnout is real and it will start to set in for a lot of people if there isn't substantial down time - for racers and fans. The WWS should only be one weekend, not two. WoO shouldn't be going to Volusia in January. That would be a good start.

There's is no points championship for fans that requires anyone to watch. The season can start and end whenever you want it to.

Have you asked JD if the length of the season factored into why they chose not to run a series full time this year?
