I agree with HH25. As a fan, a little down time for track prep is a good chance to hit the restroom, concession stand, and maybe converse with others. There's usually time to do that and have an efficiently run show with 2 classes.

But we all know most promoters want/need that back gate $$$.

Two for a special (three at the most). The headline class, plus a decent support class and intermission time to get the track right for the features. I don't mind paying good money to go to a race (travel, gas, food, maybe lodging, premium ticket prices or pit passes) but I don't want to be jobbed by a slow moving show that's going to keep me way too late. Understandable things like weather might happen but having too many classes that wear the track down don't do anyone any favors - the fans, the track staff, or the competitors. When selecting the support class it should be a good one. Racers who know how to race with discipline (modifieds, IMCA stocks, etc.) It better not be the lowest on the totem pole class (4 bangers, hobby stocks) where you are going to be treated to nothing but caution after caution. You're putting on a special. Make it special.

Weekly shows, I'll go to places that have 4-5 classes but I don't care for places that beat the heck out of the back gate with way too many classes if they only have a small number of cars per class. I understand that entry classes need to happen but if there's little difference between some of those classes how are you doing your competitors any favors in development? How are you doing your fans any favors by serving them a ho-hum show? A place that can deliver a good show in a good time frame will get me back and get me to recommend that place to others.

Biggest thing for me is how long the program goes. Start at 7:00 and finish by 10:30, so however many you can run and not extend it past my 'curfew' time; and for god's sakes quit running multiple classes that look the same!

Five classes at a dirt track: pass

Qualifying, long nights, worn out tracks, intermissions, features after 11pm. Young kids falling asleep. Nothing I hate seeing more is a family leaving before the features because the track drug out the night too long.

Tracks that run like this clearly care about the back gate more than the fans. That ultimately leads to less fans. I'm not sure what the mid-week race Summer National tracks are thinking when they run 4 classes on a Tue, Wed or Thur night. They forget the paying fans have to work the next day. I just don't go.

Most of the midweek Summernationals races I make it to generally run mods and the main Super late class. Usually get over at a pretty decent time.
I really feel bad for some of the fans down south having to sit thru 5 and 6 support classes. I won't even waste my time watching on Flo.

Weekly shows most tracks in the Midwest can handle 4/5 easily. Charleston Illinois runs pro late model b mod A mod street/pure street hornets and done around 10:30. Sometimes more or less.

Start prelims at 6, short intermission and done by 10 or 1030 tops. One time at Wheatland they were still running at 1 AM, had to leave. Two support classes and the main class. I wish more tracks would run street stocks as a support class.

Forgot to mention. For a weekly show, no qualifying. If you must do something like qualifying than do a hot lap/qualifying session with multiple cars on the track. You can set your field(s) off that, or draws, or points, or something else. No reason to punish the track - and your fans by making them sit through multiple classes of qualifying sessions for a weekly show.

                      Make it work - efficiently.

At a special with Super Late Models , no more than 2. During a weekly race at a track, 4 at the most. Prefer either a crate late model, wingless sprint or a big block modified as a support class , not the narrow tire restartifieds. Was going to rent Hunt the Front for this past Sunday's race, but decided not to when I saw that there was 3 other classes there with the late models.

the promoters of Arrowhead Speedway and the new owners of the Comp Cams series need to take this into consideration, the track is a first class facility, but every Comp Cams race they have scheduled there is with 6-7 support classes, in my younger days I was all for seeing as much racing as possible, now when I travel to watch a sanctioned super late model race, we won’t do it if there are more that 4 support classes, it seems the objective has changed to filling the pits with cars, and not the grandstands with fans, I wouldn’t want to sponsor a race car that races to a half empty grandstand nor would I want to advertise at such a facility.

I'm fine with 5-6 classes if and only if the bottom 4-5 are shortened features only. Take the top 12 in your points and do a 1/2 to 3/4 length sprint feature for a few extra bucks. Guys qualify by having good finishes and running all or most of the events for that class during the year or year before.

Otherwise 2 or 3 maximum. Most of these promoters should go to the Howie Commander School of Race Track Operations!

3 but no more than 4. Supers mods and stocks. Tracks need to learn cut a divisions and your locals will figure out a class thst they can afford and those classes will grow to 20 cars each. Eliminate the over priced crate motor BS. Do Not have super and crate lates let alone 2 different crate lates. You as well cant run A and B mods, pick one! Crate guys will move up to supers or drip down to mods. A mod will drop to B mod or vice versa. Racers are creative in figuring out a way to race at they're local track. Local racers cant afford toters and 7 hr drives racing 3 nights a weekend
