Nice to see Matt Tiftt and staff the effort they have put in there. Even when the track surface wasn’t up to par he took accountability for it.

The race was supposed to be $12,000 to win and right before the feature started they announce that a Mansfield business man donated $88,000 to make the A-Main $100,000 to win for a 40 lap feature.

It’s awesome to see a track owner take accountability for a race surface and not blame it on the weather or some other issue

As many tracks that have shut down recently anybody that bashes a track brought back to life is an idiot. I'm sure the same folks will be spewing their venom after the upcoming race at WVMS. Tiff and Hurley have spent enormous amounts of money to give racers and fans a place to enjoy a sport they love. If you like their product, support it. If you don't just STFU.

No. It is great when a track is brought back to life like the two you mentioned, but they won’t last if problems are ignored. I’m going to quote what Justin Fiedler said about this a few years ago because I think it is spot on.

“You don’t need to have promoted dirt racing events or worked in event management to call a spade a spade. The people who say we shouldn’t complain and should appreciate what we have are just wrong. We can love an event and appreciate it for its greatness, while at the same time offering critical feedback and wanting it to be better.

Race Tracks do not shut down because of streaming or social media. Race Tracks shut down due to inefficient promoting, inefficient race night programs, and bad management. A race track is business. Some strive to get better and some die.”

I think Matt Tifft and his staff deserve a lot of credit for the time and money they put into rebuilding Mansfield. They also should gain some respect for their efforts to improve the track from Friday to Saturday. It is important for them to recognize how bad the surface was and work to improve it rather than make excuses or tell fans/racers to “STFU”. The tracks that do that are the ones that close, and Mansfield will close again if they take that approach and don’t listen to the people with very legitimate criticism. Remember when Eldora put in a new surface a few years ago and it was so bad they had to take it out before the Million? That was the right thing to do, and Mansfield will need to do the same thing. The surface they got is the same as Attica and Fremont, which was a huge mistake.

They had a great crowd this weekend and had a solid crowd for their first race a few weeks ago. This is a new venture and they will get some leniency for a while since it is new, but that won’t last if they continue to have a track surface like this weekend. Tifft invested millions, and it may take a little more, but I think he will make sure it gets better.

Need to bring in some dirt from outside that area of Ohio that doesn't break down as easy. I have no doubt the ownership group there will get it right, they are a committed bunch.
