There are plenty of ways they could keep a nostalgic theme and still replace the covered grandstand with a larger section of bleachers. Doing so would not only improve the experience for the fans sitting there, it could also increase capacity and revenue from selling more tickets. Tradition and nostalgia are common, terrible excuses to give up revenue.

If Curl and Rigsby won't get ran out of town for tearing down the grandstands im sure they would've been gone by now. The story I hear is long time ago that they got offered money to blow them up for a movie and they would pay to rebuild them. Money doesnt seem to matter to the town folks when it comes to the grandstands.

Covered stands are 150 years old. It's registered in historical society so can't be touched. Not sure if it still is since they put metal roof on it. Seating is a issue only for pdc any other race you can get seats. Plus can't add more seating til you can get more parking. Parking first then seating. I would think you cam rent or borrow extensions to backstretch go up but I'm clueless if that's even an option.

I never have a problem finding parking on all the side streets. Doesn't hurt to walk 5 or 6 blocks through the neighborhoods. Fun atmosphere. Ever been to the Indy 500? You can walk a mile or more. No one complains.Originally posted by t4g2 View PostCovered stands are 150 years old. It's registered in historical society so can't be touched.
