Just throwing this out for everyone that's still here.

I think forums and forum members are sadly a dying breed, and as some of us are getting older and don't do social media like the much younger folks, maybe it’s time for us older folks to change.

    That said —--

With 4m working so sporadically, and virus prone and the demise of Indiana Open Wheel —-- would anyone be interested in another form of racing social media communication and discussion like a members Facebook group or something of the sorts? And not another forum. And NO bandwidth wasted on a politics sounding board either.

I have no clue on how said idea would work, or the inner workings of a “real name” Facebook group works, but I figure someone here might know or have a better idea.

    Your thoughts?

Yes, I thought Nathan tried starting a racing forum a few years ago and it didn't fly.

I’m not interested in another forum. More of a platform like a members group deal like on FB. I’m on a “real name” members only FB hockey group for our local team and I like it.

Real names seem to be the key. That said, if a troll like ss12 had to post with his real name, I’d bet he wouldn't post.

          HH25, I get it.

I wonder if there is another conversation platform (social media) outlet other than FB that could do what we/I wanted?

You all know this place will ride off into the sunset some day!

Other than this link - https://www.reddit.com/r/help/comments/1jktl2p/how_can_i_start_a_private_subreddit/

Does anyone here know anything about private subreddit or how it works?

As with other attempts to start another forum, the hard part is getting people to migrate over to it. I'd guess that most of us use other forums of social media to get our news and info on Dirt Late Model Racing and whenever this place is down, they just use that. 4m is familiar so as long as it's up, people will keep using it, but if it goes away, people will scatter to the wind. I know the idea is to keep that from happening, but even if the regulars here move to another spot, all the people that only pop in once in a while just won't make the switch.

It's a nice idea and every time the site goes down, I wish there was a way to continue on somewhere else, but I just don't see it happening. Reddit would probably be the best place to migrate to. Even Discord would work. I just don't think it would be any more successful than the other attempts. I'd certain join up if someone wants to try to get things going.

There are several Facebook groups/pages out there that make you think it would be useful, but I've yet to find one. Most of them are just giant bitch fests about the streaming services. There are a couple sprint car groups that are informative.

there are a few dirt racing subreddits. Nobody is is really on any of them.

I tried to get others to give their real name on here, but it didn't fly...

Nobody here ever wanted to give their real name? People said it was a privacy thing or something LOL. I never had a problem giving my real name on here or my phone number or my address. I don't understand why people hide behind the username, do you? Oh well that's the way the cookies crumble... 🤘😎

There was a song in the 80's called Video Killed the Radio Star. For racing, social media killed the message board. I ran one for a number of years centered on racing in east Tennessee. It had a good following. Once Facebook came around and people started using it, the numbers dropped drastically. It got to where nobody was posting anything. I eventually shut it down. I'm surprised 4m has lasted as long as it has.

I'd join a facebook group that was private/moderated. No problem with sharing my name. The town I live in is in my username.

I would gladly join a good quality dirt late model group on Facebook

True but he was the biggest pain. Back in the early 2000’s this place was great for information and intelligent conversation.
