So very happy to see Dan Ebert get a win in the Lucas Oil series and a very big one at that with the Topless. I've mentioned before that he is really one of the nicest guys you'll meet and if you're at one of these events you should. He's a really good dude who worked very hard to get where he is and their program keeps improving. Been following his racing since back in USMTS and he's a good clean racer.
Among the happiest to see Ebert win was none other than Mark Richards... That was nice to see!
The tires getting cut rather than being worn out was a bit surprising, considering the Comp Cams weekend a few weeks ago didn't have nearly that bad of a problem. A couple theories I heard in the pits were that, when they cut it deeper last week to get more moisture in it, it turned the rocks up back to the surface, and/or that it turned the shale/slate up on their sharp edges.
We always know it's gonna be a tire game there. It sucks that they were being cut vs wearing out.
In 2021 they resurfaced the track with some silty junk out of the White River, and the next 2 Topless weekends were awesome races. In hindsight they shoulda put a new load of that crap back on instead of the even worse crap from the infield.
Batesville is my home track and I'll support it and defend it as much as I can. Mooney and the track staff have put great effort in to getting a good track for this event the last few years. But they need to put great effort into getting a sifter. The racing was very good when they were able to get green flag laps in.
Rice would have won easily but his Right rear turned into a bowling ball..
He was in his own time zone for sure, but it's so hard to keep that pace and have the RR survive.
Luck definitely played into Ebert's favor, but it wasn't all luck by any means. He was able to make passes thru the middle in the rubber and get in a position to win, and drive away when it was his time.

that’s why I want it to work. Mooney has worked too hard. Guessing he’s more frustrated than anyone else. He sure has a lot more invested than us keyboard warriors.
And the days that I keep my gratitude higher than my expectations, well, I have really good days - Ray Wylie Hubbard
sadly the Topless 100 is losing it's prestige, many of the sports greatest drivers have won that race, used to be back in the day when it paid $25k to win it drew nearly a hundred cars, now it pays $50k to win and draws a measly 40 cars, Moyer Sr and Moyer Jr didn't even make an attempt this year, and they live in Batesville, after all the issues with flats this weekend, I look for the car count to dwindle even further for the Topless unless something miraculous happens, I'm pretty sure Mooney isn't thrilled with what occurred, as this is his tracks premier event.
Did they have issues with flat tires during the Comp Cams races held at Batesville earlier this season, I don't remember hearing that being an issue?
Cade Dillard won a Comp Cams race there at Batesville a month or so ago, but he too opted not to run this years Topless, LOLMDS suspended him for 6 months after the incident at last years Topless, has Cade ran with Lucas Oil since the ban ended, or is he is racing only with the Comp Cams series.

Rice was driving entirely too hard to last IMO. I think he and McDowell were the only front runners that did not stop and change tires before Rice had his flat.
