Been coming to National 100 for years, 5 or 6 years ago I understand why drivers didn't come. Last 3 years new owners have made drastic improvements to facilities and track. Hope new surface brings them back.
Don't understand

All of the gouging of the race teams is what ruined this event. Pit passes, entry fees, atv fees and even charging for pit parking. Has the new management quit gouging the race teams?
Also racing has severely declined. The super late model population is probably half of what it was when this race was at its peak. So this race will never return to its former car counts

Wow, charging for pit parking? That's really taking advantage of the teams. In previous years, all those divisions racing on Sunday had to irritate the late model teams. Seemed it was late Sunday evening before they hit the track. As you say, hopefully the new owners and their improvements bring back the teams.Originally posted by Fast Wheels View PostAll of the gouging of the race teams is what ruined this event. The previous ownership used to charge a pit parking fee if race teams wanted to park in the center of the track, turn one or turn four. The back straight was the only free parking. Are they still doing this?
This is their regular payoff. If this event pays back as bad as their regular payoff it’s no wonder it’s declined so much in car count

Unfortunately I think we will see more 'back gate' races coming to a track near you. Over 450 cars at Charlotte WSTC, similar thing to EAMS; not on here to bash as the people keep showing up so why would the track do anything different (maybe EAMS will have to change, Charlotte sure won't)? Everyone wants more pay yet we all should take notice that the grandstands are not exactly filling up-where do you think the money has to come from...

The track was decent on Friday night.
But Saturday was as bad as it can get. One lane around the inner wall.

Back gate promoting combined with higher entry fees.Originally posted by EvelB7 View PostUnfortunately I think we will see more 'back gate' races coming to a track near you. The back gate formula has driven a lot of Saturday night racers out of their hobby. I was in that position for a whole lotta years when younger and raising a family and running my construction company. Made enough bucks to do all pretty well but my kids were never going to go barefoot or the then wife having to beg for a vacation away from Dad's crazy hobby. After the kids were gone from the nest as well as the wife and retirement came around I could spend more time and $ on the obsession and hit the road with touring series. Unfortunately, the driving skills weren't what they were in the earlier years and much of the driving was shifted to the son who, admittedly, was better than his old man. Had a couple of more decades of good times with that synopsis but the current method of tracks expecting the racers to cover the tab for their agreeably more expensive business leaves a bad taste when a self financed team can't cover more than a small portion of the bills even with top 3s and problem free nights. It just isn't a sustainable deal in the long run and I worry for the future of our beloved sport. Without a feeder system to the top classes it looks pretty grim. Doubt I'll ever quit since I don't know what I'd do without a shop full of toys to spend my time on.
