Waterless SDLM tires?

I heard that the tire manufactures are working on a set of tires that you can use on a dirt track without water? Could be a very interesting concept. I would be very interested to find out how they would work. Any idea guys if this is true? It sounds like they would be better off on a pavement track to me.

Not web based. Just talk around the racing guys. I just wanted to know if anybody else heard of this rumour. It seems unrealistic to me. You never know in this day and age.

The day they quit watering tracks is the day I go to blacktop or quit.

A tire with treads in it can drive on dirt or pavement, been like that forever, don't get confused.

Hmmm maybe the manufactures are tire of people greasing their tires so they are going grease all tires for dirt tracks that they wont need to water the tracks.

You can find tires that work with out water, but can you find fans that will lay down good money to suffer threw a dirt storm every week? We could call it the Haboob series.

Waterless tires

In the 70's I had a set of M&H I believe that were for dirt and they were basically slicks with small slots not blocks. I guess they would be used in rubbered up tracks. Never used them.

The Sprint Car guys used them a lot. First I ever saw was on Bob Trosel's car, that Doug Wolfgang ran, # 20. The M&H came in two compounds if I remember and a wide variety of widths and circumference, although for the most part, they where a bit harder than most of today's tire. At that time most LM ran the old Firestone's, that came in hard and harder and was limited to 13.50 x15s.

They really grew, when on the go pedal, getting them things around the corner. I saw them grooved in a variety of spacings and patterns. Goodyear made a tire for USAC at the time that was good for the long day races and oiled sand tracks of the time also. Harder than Superman's knee cap.
