Ive never once waivered away and said that Devin couldn't flat out wheel a race car now have I? No I haven't! Sure he went to florida as was pointed out..... Sure he has 3 ump national championships as was pointed out..... Would he have those championships if he traveled more and competed against guys tougher than just brownstown ? I doubt it but thats why I have my opinion and you all have yours thats what makes having an opinion a good thing..... My opinions may not always be the most popular but guess what I'm not a teenage kid trying to win a popularity contest here so it means diddly to me....
#1 thing you need to understand is UMP points is designed for racers competing at their LOCAL tracks vs LOCAL competition. The guys that are in contention for the UMP Championships ALL race quite a bit at their local tracks throughout the season, then venture out to go head to head with the competition towards seasons end. This isnt some sort of traveling series I dont think. If it is, please correct me?

In 2012 and 2013 Gilpin raced at Kankakee, Fairbury and other tracks over here and did quite well against some very good competition.

Why are we still arguing about a bounty that was last season, and you really think a guy is gonna give up 2nd place $$ that easy?? Really now?

By the way, your Opinions are what this message board is all about, and I for one respect most peoples opinions. Just dont let your opinion get in the way of the facts.

      Some Facts

      Gilpin:

      2012- 36 wins @ 13 tracks in 4 States
      Moler- 8
      Brownstown- 6
      Portsmouth -5
      Lawrenceburg - 3
      Lincoln Park- 3
      Terre Haute- 2
      Kankakee-2
      Windy Hollow-2
      Brushcreek-1
      Fairbury-1
      Paducah-1
      Shady Hill-1
      Danville-1

      2013- 31 wins @ 13 tracks in 4 states

      Brownstown- 13
      Moler-6
      Portsmouth-2
      Bloomington-2
      Florence -1
      Gas City-1
      Kankakee-1
      Lawrenceburg -1
      Lincoln Park -1
      North Vernon -1
      Danville-1

Pretty heavy on the wins at Brownstown in 2013, but the 2012 season looks pretty balanced to me. If I get time I will post 2014.

          Competition

So looking at Mike Harrison and Jacob Poel's results the past few years, it seems if someone took the time to list their wins, you would see that they both get the majority of their wins right close to home, similar to Gilpin.

Highland, Fayette County, I-96.... Maybe its just that Gilpin performed a little better vs the local talent that people want to hate on him?

I've never seen him shy away from competition. I've seen him win at Eldora, Montpelier, Florence, Potsmouth. Pretty stiff competition he beat at those tracks and he doesn't regularly race at any of them. I have been really impressed every time I have seen him race. The guy has the talent and desire to win and be successful, that's all that needs to be said.

I'm glad Gilpin is running SLMs and hope he continues he was the man in the mods for sure the only person I seen Gilpin struggle against last year in the modified was #60 Dan Ebert those two when racing together was the best racing I seen all year.

I saw Nick Hoffman beat him at Lawernceburgs big Mod race last year, but Nick is one of the best in a Mod.
I wish Gilpin well in the SLM, he looked good at Eldoras opener.

The numbers don't lie for sure.... And you are right this is all over a bounty that was a couple yrs ago... Ive never once said that Devin wasn't a wheel man because he is!! The kid can flat out drive there's no doubt about that!! My question again is if he traveled into ump land against the likes of Harrison, leka and those kind of guys would he of still been a ump champ? I doubt it.... But then again you posted that Harrison and poem got most of their wins close to home? I'd like to see a list of their wins compiled if someone could do it... I don't have the patience to do it myself lol....
If you can't race it or take it to bed! It ain't worth having!

Ok ok ok I get it y'all have your opinions about the bounty deal on Devin which is fine y'all wanna spin it which ever way you see fit and I'll spin it in reality the fukn kid ducked the bounty plain and simple like a puzzy.... He was flat out beat by Ryan Thomas and Ryan Thomas got screwed on collecting the bounty because as y'all wanna spin it Devin wasn't ducking anyone at all he was saving his motor........ Well the last time I knew REAL racers raced for the win they didn't duck the competition just because th3y were scared they couldn't beat another driver!!!!! Now I'm done arguing with you guys about this issue because some of you obviously have blinders/rose colored glasses on and can't see past the end of your noses......

And you can't get 30 plus wins at one track in multiple states.
Up in the air who my next “favorite” driver is. Really losing hope on Bloomer getting anywhere back to “normal”.

And Nasty, if you're still pi$$ed about a bounty at Brownstown, don't ya think it's time to let it go? If he did it to screw a guy outta the bounty, so be it. Brownstown coulda still been white about it and gave it to the guy, that's not on Devin, that's on Brownstown.

Isn't that what people said Schlenk did? I would argue you can very easily. You only need car counts. Not saying he did...

I've watched gilpin quite a bit these past three years in Ohio, Indiana, and ky. He wins everywhere he goes. Most times there is zero competition for him. Like he's on a Sunday drive. I'd be willing to bet I've watched him between heat races and features in the mod win over 50 races..... Out of all those nights of racing I've seen him get passed a total of two times and one of them I call bullchit on. One was last week at Florence.... As usual he was half track ahead of everyone tooling around scratching his nuts and out of nowhere comes this black 51 car... Last name green. He passed gilpin like he was sitting still. Hell Im a gilpin fan and still stood up and clapped because I finally witnessed someone give it to him....... He never pulled off. Kept right on rolling. Second was supposedly when Ebert passed him at the checkers at Portsmouth. The videos are somewhere on 4m. I know that angles can play tricks on a persons eyes but that video showed me that gilpin won. He did get pissed that night, and he had every reason to be after watching the video. I was there t
That night and Ebert did do a hell of a job catching him. So out of 50? Or so races he's been passed twice that I've seen. Three time ump points champ three years straight. If you wanna see him run with the boys from Illinois TELL THEM TO COME HERE! Gilpin doesn't need to go there to prove $hit to anyone. How many folks do you all know that comes out in a brand new LM they have never been in and has a record like he's got this year. You guys just don't get it about molers. The locals there are FAST. Lil john, Stapleton, Chamberlain, and hell the burgess kid has been fast to.

With all this said, I agree time will tell. It there is o e thing you all have to realize. They aren't a huge sponsored team so they have to be smart when it comes to money. And that's exactly what him and his grandpa are... They go race, have fun, win, and keep money going to race a CRAZY schedule. I will end with this. I'm thinking last year he went to three (possibly 4) different tracks, in one week and swept every feature. Pretty sure it was Thurs somewhere, Moler Friday night, Portsmouth sat, and somewhere Sunday. I remember everyone talking about it. I wish him well. And yes his girl is smoking hot.
